Ao Yue was Ao Gu's little bro and the second dragon prince of the Eastern Sea, then the Demon Lord was sealed inside him and he was kicked out of the palace and changed his name to Xuan Yue, met Xiao Jifeng, they fell inlove, Xiao Jifeng went crazy, they both died, and were reborn as AoAo and Ryan. Ao Gu found his little bro's reincarnation AoAo and took him back home.
Then AoAo ran away from home several times. The story actually begins the second time AoAo runs away in his current lifetime: the first time was when he was little and met "black ball" (Ryan) who was Xiao Jifeng's reincarnation, but none of them knew that and AoAo even ended up going through something that made him lose those memories of this first meeting with Black Ball/Ryan. That's why Ryan knows him but AoAo doesn't recognize Ryan, and that's why Ryan knows him only as AoAo: neither AoAo nor Ryan knows they're both Xiao Jifeng's and Ao Yue's reincarnations, and because Ryan was born in Europe in this second lifetime, he doesn't seem to have even heard who Xiao Jifeng and Ao Yue are.
