Shoujo ai means it’s a GL (girls love) book but what do you mean by better than shounen ai?

Like in terms of writing. I know it's subjective, but I noticed that most BLs are somewhat horrible in terms of story writing and characterizations. Are shoujo/straight romance generally better in this area or they just the same?

Yeah it is a subjective question but personally I’d say shoujo is worse in story telling and has stereotypical characters/plots mostly, but maybe I’ve always encountered those, no idea. Though there are some shoujos I like so yeah there are good ones too
And in terms of shoujo ai, I think it’s like similar to shounen ai? I mean there are good and bad ones I wouldn’t say one is better than the other in general. But these are my personal opinions and I’ve read more shounen ais than shoujo or shoujo ais so maybe there are some really good gems who knows (〜￣△￣)〜
Oh and also, as there are A LOT of BLs in mangago, ofc there are better written ones and just shallow ones so you gotta choose carefully hehe, I mean personally I don’t like 90% of the main stream BLs, they aren’t deep at all with drama everywhere and if it’s yaoi then they just drop some smut here and there and bam, it’s finished like what???
