I feel bad for Sawamura more than anything because there's only three more months for Miyuki to get together with Sawamura. Out of two years, there's only time for a three month Miyuki/Sawamura battery. That's not enough time for their partnership to grow and rise to the top, and it's sad. I don't want to be sad over DNA. I want to love it and enjoy the ef out of it.
Am I the only one who reads this mainly for Miyuki? I never see any comments about him, yet he is head and shoulders above the rest in skill, presence, rank, leadership, charisma... not to mention his good looks. He's the amazing character, yet all the talk is about Sawamura. Is it because Sawamura looks so childish, and because this manga is designed to appeal to children? Is it only children making the comments about how they love Sawamura?
It really puzzles me.
Because the manga is about him?
But I get you though when I started watching the anime I even saw people getting angry over the fact that furiya had more scene... or he was better
I mean it's like they were expecting eijun who at that time wasn't good enough to be the ace or something and ignore any other characters...
Miyuki is a great one... he evolved from being selfish to a real captain... but no one can make me forget chris... I think he was the most inspiring and one of the most heartbreaking character... but he still had to leave...
But well since it's a manga about sawamura people focus more on him especially since it's a based on a real story
Haikyuu might be the only place where you can find people appreciate other characters sometimes even opponents...
well.... Daiya no Ace has two main characters. It's not just about Sawamura. Miyuki is also a main character. If there's any doubt, check out the closing song of the first and second season, not to mention that season two belongs mainly to Miyuki.
I don't see Miyuki as selfish, though he is a bit of a nag. LOL I think the lack of comments might be because he is so perfect that there's really nothing left to add or dispute. He probably gets good grades and has a big dick, too. If he has any flaws it's that he is so lacking in flaws.
I doubt that Miyuki evolved from selfish to anything. LOL I think he feels the responsibility of being the captain and is doing what is necessary to fill that role. He will likely go back to the being the same person he was, twisted sense of humor and all, once he's no longer the captain.
For example, Nori needs to be put back on his feet. Miyuki is made to see that it's his responsibility to do so. We see him after that in many examples of doing all he can to get Nori up and running again. It's not personal growth. It's his job. LOL!
I agree that Chris is a wonderful character, and I also see Furuya as much more likeable in the anime than in the manga.
thanks for your most interesting comment. I enjoyed reading your view, and see your side. You have me curious now about Haikyuu
Yeah the anime isn't just about sawamura, I won't go as far as saying that miyuki is the main character too maybe second lead... dunno I guess even if he is the main character I don't mind either way... he's pretty much one of the most eye catching characters in this..
But the story itself is based on sawamura eiji which in the manga is called eijun... I like him but I'm not focus on him as much as others would be... I notice others...
Anyway when I said selfish it was too much I guess because selfish is more about oneself while he's not like that what I meant was he was too focus on the technical side of things he wasn't really looking at the emotional side at all but that changed too...
Though I never thought of his dick(not that I would have the chance to ever see) but I guess he is sorta almost perfect I guess... that type of person you'd like to meet but you'll go crazy with his twisted personality
Yeah you should try haikyuu if you haven't yet it's among the top 5 manga in Japan atleast last time I checked and it did well international wise too
another miyuki fanboy/fangirl, i see. you should try tumblr, there's a concentration of miyuki worshippers there. Also, the reason why people are talking about sawamura a lot lately is BECAUSE this is his development arc. terajima is having him mature as the ace. Besides, miyuki is far from being the focus of the story lol the story is called "Diamond no Ace" hence the pitchers get so much background and development. Miyuki seems like the focus bc he's popular with the audience, and also someone who's heavily influential to sawamura's development as an ace. You can see that he gets less screentime lately bc there's another catcher who's working with sawa's growth: Okumura.
Chris, huh? Chris is among, if not the, most cunning, clever, knowledgeable, cutthroat character of all the them, and he'll do it all with a gentle smile on his face. lol. Why do you think Miyuki likes him so much? Miyuki has always wanted to go up against Chris as a rival.
I hope Chris plays baseball in college. He'd be something to see in action. I think that Chris brought forward a kinder side of Miyuki, and I think they came to like each other very much once life positioned them in circumstances where empathy could grow.
What blew my mind was in the anime when Miyuki said -paraphasng- "win or lose, the battles that could win my heart have already been fought. I think I'll never win against this guy (Chris)." During the interchange, Chris's eyes are shining with fondness.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean "I want you to be my bf." Still, wtf, you friggin translators?
The Japanese are infamously bad at translating emotions. Just when we get to a moment where we are dying to have a clear picture of exactly what things mean, they decide to out-subtle themselves with a few short, stupid, pretty, obtuse phrases. It's so annoying, and in the world of the USA publishing industry, such crap would never pass. Say it or don't say it.
What is Miyuki saying? That he has romantic feelings towards Chris? He talks about his heart. WTF? The sentences could mean any number of things, and it's not fair to the audience to leave us with something that raises more questions than it answers.
While I am a fan of Daiya no Ace, I don't like to be called one, and I don't worship Miyuki. I like him very much, but I'm not the kind of person who can be easily blinded by big crowds of fans. So insulting, plus that cheeky lol, seriously.....
I also like baseball. What does that make me?
I disagree with most of what you said. Miyuki fits all the qualifications of a main character. He carries the plot forward, he grows within the story, etc.- writing 101 stuff.
Come to that, Sawamura does not grow emotionally. sheesh. He learns to pitch a little better is all.
For me, I wouldn't want to hang out with him in RL. I sometimes wonder why they're all so patient with him being such an egomaniac, so obnoxiously full of sentimentality, and such a loudmouth that the people in the bleachers can hear him. He would drive me up the wall. Someone should really trounce on him.
Again, I would say to go back and look at the focus character in the songs at the end and beginning of Daiya no Ace Season 2. Miyuki is a main character, and no one else but Sawamura and Miyuki fit those roles. Saying he's not is like saying that Levi is not a main character in Attack on Titan.
Okay you won me on the levi comment... well I'm a baseball fan I understand zero to none... I just love sports anime overall it's really fun... motivating too...well many anime are motivating but sports anime are sorta more realistic... you get me?
I wouldn't hangout with eijun even if you paid me... I might end beating the shit out of him after 1 min... I can't handle people who's overly loud... when I mentioned hangout it was with miyuki... Though I don't think everyone would be able to handle him... unless you can outwit him or you're the type who don't care... he won't be your cup of tea with that tongue of his...
Anyway since you're into baseball dunno if you're into sport anime overall, haikyuu as I've mentioned before is about volleyball so dunno if you're gonna like it
Its pretty similar to this one
The MC hinata and kageyama are basically the eijun and furuya of haikyuu..
Hinata is one with basically little skill in volleyball short but still try to cover his short coming, he's loud too but the loud that anyone would appreciate... you won't see him going around spouting nonsense to the audience... sorta dumb too
Kageyama basically is the volleyball genius but volleyball eat up all his brain stupid in everything else just like hinata... but cool type
They happened to be rivals too but their rivalry don't make sense they don't even play for the same position
Well many great characters
God I look like haikyuu advertiser
Anyway dunno if that reply was meant for me
I even replied twice
I get you, MehrX, yeah, Miyuki might be difficult to be around, too.
I've played volleyball so I have a basic understanding of the game. I'm sure not about to play it now. Ouch ouch ouch, my fingers!
I didn't know Haiku was about volleyball. Now I really am curious, and you know how to describe without spoiling, by the way.
The thing about Chris was for you! Did I put it in the wrong response thingy. lol on me.
I'mma put this one in the wrong place, too, probably. I hate those little ringlets sprouting out of Chris's hair. He should always be drawn with it down in his face.
I haven't seen the story about Eijen. Is it available to read here on mangago?
Have you read the all-stars story in DNA? It was really good at showing the character's change towards one another after getting to know them a bit, even Umemya from Ugumori became almost sympathetic.
Thank you for your nice responses. I enjoy talking to you.
I gripe a lot about Terra jima, but I really am in awe of him as an artist. His sheer output at that skill level amazes me.
The thing about impatience with the story, I think, is because it's a serialized work. I think the publishers probably push these artists way too much, and the flow of the story suffers for it in terms of disorganization, like forgetting that he has a storyline that he hasn't quite finished before moving on to another storyline. It's not really his fault. It's got to be difficult beyond comprehension to live that kind of life where you're always under pressure, always perched on a cliff, as Gintama's author, Soriachi describes it. Somehow Soriachi manages to keep the plot consistent through all his millions of chapters.
I did spoil but I realised it before it was too late
No I didn't see either but the one I was talking the real eiji sawamura baseball player died at the age of 27 as a soldier I think in world war 2
Chris looks way better with his hair down... hell'a hot
Authors shouldn't be pressured it may end up limiting their imagination and messing the plot
I enjoyed talking to you too
Our ace this, our ace that. I'm really tired of everyone in this manga, including Miyuki, handing off every single ounce of their team's power and glory to "Our Ace" Furuya! I wish they'd just give it a rest. The Ace, Furuya, is not the only one playing the game, and Furuya is not worthy of all the adulation, at least not yet.
It pains me to be critical of Miyuki - LOL
and I really like this manga even though it's frustrating at times. ヽ(`Д´)ノ
I really don't see how anyone can say that Sawamura and Furu are simply rivals with mutual respect and liking for each other. That only starts happening in the very very VERY last few chapters. Seeing that from the start is kind of a rose-colored-glasses way of seeing it, isn't it? I think the author wants us to start liking FU in recent chapters, but it's damn hard to make me like a character who I've been made to despise for the whole book! I can barely hold back how much I hate the guy.
After he loses the ace number, he becomes slightly likeable. For the whole rest of the story, it burns me up every time my favorite, miyuki, shows furu favoritism because I can't stand Furufukface, and it's not because I want Miy and Sawa to become bff.
I hated it when Furkurya got absolutely all the attention from the press. damn. In RL I guess that's what happens, but doesn't the real credit go to the catcher? The rest of the team should get some glory, too. wtf? you know? It's like the only person playing baseball is the stupid pitcher, who only does what the catcher tells him to do. He's not the one using his brain. the catcher is. Why aren't they at least seeking interviews with Miyuki?
I wish the author had brought sawa along faster. The little by little gains are so long in coming, and it's hard to watch him get slammed over and over. That said, I adore this manga, and I'm glad for the anime cuz it makes the manga so much easier to understand and follow. The whole thing is pretty addictive.
I wish there was more of miyuki flirting with the taiwanese pitcher. LOL
hey, you get 3 strikes, 4 balls, right? and how many foul balls? and it seems like they can run even after they strike out in some circumstances... is that right? (I'm not talking about stealing bases) thanks in advance
A foul ball counts as a strike up until you're at two strikes. At that point then any foul that happens technically doesn't count towards your strike count, keeping you at 2 strikes until you either hit it, get walked, or strikeout.
I have no idea when you're talking about. Could you maybe give me a chapter example or something?
after the enjoyable chapters that came before 106, I'm frustrated again. I know that this author knows that I want to see Miyuki catch for Mei Narumiya. Mei calls Miyuki by his first name, which is cool. They've clearly known each other for a long time. The mysterious past they share, and the interesting fireworks that could produce - it seems like such a wasted opportunity not to write that scene for all it's worth!
Who is actually catching for Narumiya? That guy looks like he's forty years old. S' annoying.
Miyuki on first base is cute and funny, though. He handles it the way he handles everything. He's cool with it.

Miyuki, the minute he graduates high school, will be worth a million dollars a year - bare minimum. It's one thing I find so interesting about the character. As far as I can see, no other player in this story has that potential.
