I'm liking this story so far, but i can't believe that this comic made me read the word "niggerdly" with mine own eyes in the year of our lord 2024. Someone take the thesaurus away...
That’s what I said!!! So many other words that mean the same thing! Even if it’s exact TL (which I don’t think it is) they can still use a different word
I guess, to be fair, etymologically that word isn't related to the n word at all. They have different roots or something, but it looks really gross to our eyes. Just leave it in the middle ages where it belongs.
@TangodoMal the word "niggerdly" is very similar to the worst racial slur against a black person in English. Just minus the "-dly." It's a pretty old fashioned word and not used much in modern English due to this. However, because English gets words from many other languages, the root of the word (that is, the original orgins of the word before it came into English) is different. That means that the root word "niggerdly" is not the same as the slur, it's a coincidence that they look and sound similar.
Honestly I've been loving the tl team for this one because libertine was a fantastic word to put in but truly how'd that go through multiple people. Did no one read that chapter and go "hmm... you know there are a few other words in my trusty thesaurus that could be better"

What does it mean? English isn't my native language and I just passed over the word when I saw it

Oh btw, the word means stingy or ungenerous.
Thank you!
