I reread it and that head nod meant she knew the boy was going to pull our mc’s hair, and I’m thinking the mom brought the son to antagonize our poor mc, hoping to get him out of the palace. When our mc said his hair no longer belongs to him she had the son deliver it to the Dad to see what would happen maybe hoping to start a conflict between them because he didn’t protect his hair.
