I have no evidence but work with me. Remember when the mother said to the son the father was not crazy when he died. That everything he said was true and the son HAD to go to the castle. Well the father when he was alive was saying things that could have gotten them killed. So they claimed he was crazy. But what could get them killed. Being heirs to the throne aka the devil. If the devil keeps the kings in power whoever the devil backs is king. I think it was a grandfather that was king. Because the son didnt ever remember being royal. His whole like was a mat maker. So I think the devil was with his grandfather.
okay wait that’s a really good theory/ explanation. i really like that idea and it makes a lot of sense. like the grandfather had the devil but got killed and so the family fled their royal positions to find safety in poverty... nice. hopefully the author explains how slowly/ quickly the devil ages bc it would make sense for him to age differently, especially if Devil is the same devil that came from the volcano (correct me if i’m wrong about where the devil came from, that’s how i remember & interpreted it)
what i understood is that he does know he's from the royal han family, but thinks the guy doesn't know. Cuz in the ch when they slept together he tells him
" you know what? King Cheok, the Greatest king who founded ( the first Han king, so it can be his brother or even dad or even grandfather b/c the Han have controlled the devil for hundreds of years) the Han country, was a matman like you"
so i think he told him that to inspire/motivate him cuz the next line he said "he was able to burn when he met me". Which I believe that "burn" in this context means good. Like the king was able to rule, control, shine b/c of the devil. There was even a line that said whoever controls the devil or who the devil chooses to back will the be ruler of the 7 countries of fire. I also concluded it meant something good considering the han have ruled the 7 countries & posses the devil for many generations.
