Through all these chapters I stick to three important things.
1. Just like how she feel her best friend was meant to be loved, so was she. She is truly so sweet and kind and very pretty and I’m glad she had a best friend who poured into her as she, as we can see, freely pours into others
2. Me and the dark her son got DEEP beef until he get his head out his ass. Like when I say the “he was just a child” has been a mantra and an unsuccessful one at that because dead ass fuck that lil bitch. Being ignorant to the world is one thing. Having the knowledge and still being a raging hairy cunt is another! Make he skin his knee and go bald in the middle first until he does right by my girl!
3. I’m team prince! Legit out of everyone he has been the only one who just wants her to do what she wants. Not asking her to forget anyone but just exist. Not tryna convince her of anything but being there by her side when he can. Quiet literally just wants to be with her in any capacity she wishes her life to be in! Legit, although it started from her art, happy to just be in her orbit? Yea. I luh him. He is where my allegiance lies!! Here is where I stand!!
I give the kid some grace and it helps to remember that he was traumatized by the remarriage. His mother hadn't even been dead and buried for (I think) 6 months before his father and his mom's BFF shacked up together, as if they'd just been waiting for it to happen. I believe most of his anger is actually directed at his dad for this betrayal and Cassia just happens to get the brunt of it. He was grieving and felt like his mother was being replaced. Probably screwed up his view of relationships tbf. He definitely felt lonely in his own family.
Him learning the truth doesn't negate that he felt like his home wasn't safe for him. If his mom was so easily replaced, whose to say he also wasn't? He basically ran away to the military. He's also right that he didn't ask to be protected. The adults made that decision. They had his best interest in mind, yes, but it doesn't change what he experienced. It's easy to forget that it's the kids who have to live with the consequences and, since he wouldn't know any differently, the information doesn't hold much weight for him.
I don't think he'll always be an antagonist. We'll probably get some development about how hurt he was and how the excuse of it being fake doesn't magically erase the wounds. He's, hopefully, just a minor antagonist who'll be annoying but slowly comes to terms with his past and settles down.
