I didn’t fully read all the spoilers because it got so depressing, but Varkas is essentially under some spell by the original empress to make it so he has to protect her children. During the pilgrimage somehow they’re attacked. I don’t totally remember and varkas goes and saves Ayla and Talia has her hips crushed by a mountain because he goes to save Ayla and I don’t understand the middle bit, but somehow Varkas ends up being married to Talia to as punishment because she loses her beauty and is essentially driven out of the palace because of this accident where her complete bottom half is crushed. They have a miserable marriage and she has a child but it’s a stillborn, and somehow at this point of the story she dies? But it’s unclear if it’s a vision that Varkas is having or if it’s actually happening. Sorry I don’t totally know because I didn’t totally understand while reading the spoilers, but overall it’s just a really sad story. If you look up the name of the story and spoilers, there should be a novel forum that pops up that will give you all of this with much better details if you’re interested.
