If there’s confusion then think about it in simple terms—the king, Karas, swapped real salt with mock black potion poison salt. He ordered his soldiers to mix the mock black potion poison salt into the real salt pots at the councilmens’ temples to effectively make them go crazy and everyone else that eats food with the mock black potion poison salt. Some of the council are already poisoned with the mock black potion poison salt when they seasoned their food at the dinners with Karas (Karas ordered that hooded guy to do it after he poisoned him). The duke is not poisoned. Karas is faking being poisoned. Someone is stealing the mock black potion poison salt (I think Karas ordered someone to it, the cooks). The poisoned salt is a white crystal that looks like salt and has effects like the black potion.
I understand almost everything now thanks to you, but I don't get why and how Karas didn't get poisoned. Didn't he consume the poison through the food ? Or did he find a way to prevent his food from being poisoned ?

The council members were poisoned because the cooks purposefully made their food taste bland and disgusting, thus the council members seasoned their food with “salt” (the poison) to make it taste better. The poison is supposed to act like the black potion so when they’re poisoned they act insane and become addicted to the “salt” (the poison). Hence why hooded guy who Karas poisoned first before the others bought that salt mine. Karas and the duke remained unpoisoned because their food wasn’t tampered with to be made bland, also Karas knew the salt was poison because he ordered the hooded guy to poison everyone (or Karas would slaughter his family). Karas’ food was poisoned with the black potion, but it has no effect on him because he’s too strong and someone else mentioned his fire abilities likely allowed him to burn the black potion in his mouth, the black potion’s weakness.

No poison works on him except the black potion.
