I don't think he actually died. I'm pretty sure he was shot but they said he was dead in order to protect him. I think I remember them saying he was sent somewhere. I could be wrong though.
After that he dies in shins lap after an incident. I forgot tbh what was happening but grenn died saving shin.
I think he's def. Dead. There's a scene with Jake and Shin at what looks like his grave and Shin seemed like he was mourning him/ still wants to avenge Gren.
