I get where you're coming from. I also don't think the FL fits our MC's personality all that well. (Ignoring the mental age difference here for the moment.) She's a hard worker and cute, but they just don't seem to mesh well together.
Still, I feel the two of them will end up together anyway. That woman meant to perform the ritual on her own child feels like a better fit. Maybe we can write it up as a flaw in the author's writing.
