I'm glad Skelly and his dad had this talk. No one is perfect in this story, and the king more than anyone has trouble being objective on others and seeing their evolutions.
Be it Mary, Skelly or anyone else for that matter, he stays stuck in the past because he's always in denial about people evolving since he doesn't.
It's good he learns to accept people can act on their own and the world doesn't revolve around him. (I love him tho)
