I'm just not into CNC play. I just don't like anything that deals with rape and what it's associated with period. I know they have a safe word and that Yuan literally asked for it, but I will never willingly read it even when the safe word hasn't been said. These two are in a VERY healthy and trusting relationship, and I love that for them but these last few chapters just aren't for me. Give me rough sex all day long! But this? Yeah, no.
Also, I refuse to read any characters labeled as "black flag". Yes, I have not read anything that the characters Zhenya or Ilya are in as they will more than likely cause me to violently vomit either mentally or physically. Not shaming anyone for liking it, but not for me.
I can get that the forbidden is...sexy to some, but they aren't getting the fact people have boundaries that they aren't willing to cross. If Yuan had never brought up rape play, no one would've batted an eye because there are so many other aspects of BDSM that can be explored that ISN'T rape play, rape fantasy, CNC-connected. They are getting the idea that Dom's and sub's usually have contracts stating limits/boundaries that don't appeal to them, and no one seems to be getting that in the comments.
I'm starting to believe you guys don't know how a true Dom/sub relationship works except for what you've seen and read online, and that's very worrying to someone who has looked into this life thoroughly.
These two never signed a contract stating their limits/boundaries, and that's actually kinda worrying as it's usually Yuan who broaches something because he wants to try it without knowing if it'd actually appeal to him.
I'm not trying to jump you, and I understand the nuance you're bringing up. But you fail to realize two things, one being, since Yuan did bring up and was the one to initiate the play, your point does not wholly apply. He wanted it. His dom wanted it. Why are you pressed, then? He isn't doing that to you, he's doing that to Yuan.
Also, I have participated in actual BDSM circles, and while many things are accurate, you can't expect a manhwa to be wholly perfect in depicting it, or the manhwa artist wishing to depict it. After all, the aim for this one isn't really to educate and spread awareness, but to be more or less "hot" and a story for people to enjoy and perhaps jerk off to, just like how porn isn't real. It is a little bit patronizing to the readers if you can't understand that they are also adults who can think critically for themselves that a porn manhwa isn't accurate depiction.
And, it is perfectly fine to not be into rape play/dislike CNC, but in this case, it's a BDSM fic and it's completely in the realm of possibilities. Of course, the author could choose not to explore it, but they want to, so they did. You're not the author. You can choose to click off or read something else. When you leave a comment like that, it just sounds like "oh, I don't like this development. The author should have catered to MY tastes specifically!" (even if that is not what you meant). And again, it also sounds like "Oh, I am better than all of you because I DON'T like this kink, even though I like other kinks that are deemed to be morally superior!" but I digress.
Do you think you are helping rape victims with this mindset? This is the sort of content that is salvation to many victims you seek to protect and advocate for. Who do you actually want to protect?
"Should seek a psych ward" is so horribly immature of you. Do you not know how many people are sexually abused (or just plain horribly mistreated) in psych wards? And this is in first world countries. In 90% of the world, you would be hard pressed to even find a psychiatrist or therapist, and even then there is no guarantee they would be a good one. I say this with personal experience; I have a family member with mental disorders and a past of abuse, and I have been tirelessly spending all my life to get them help. If you are personally involved in such a situation, you will understand the helplessness of the govt systems, and that the real enemies aren't these "manhwa artists and media creators" but the governments all over the world that is run by actual criminals and wholly based on the systemic exploitation of underprivileged people. The solution to that is advocating for the environment, justice to real life criminal, persecution of criminals in positions of power, redistribution of wealth, education, and empathy towards humans. A manhwa creator is not your enemy. A victim who now has a rape kink is not your enemy. Your enemy is much more sinister and powerful.
About dark topics in fiction, When you cannot talk about, explore and discuss trauma, it consumes your entire being and makes it harder for you to heal. Yes, there are people who may consume content like this in a manner that is harmful to them, but there are tons others and can come to terms with their trauma and understand their abuse by reading or creating rape fiction, or indulging in rape play, or it could just be a harmless kink. Just like you didn't become a rapist by reading this manhwa, people have enough sense not to reenact whatever we see. We have intelligence, morals and fear of the law. But, also, we are humans, it is completely natural to fetishize, romanticize, inaccurately depict things. That is how people have been and they will be. What does intent and thoughts matter if your actions in real life are just and you bring a positive change to society?
You are allowed to be uncomfortable with this, you are allowed to filter it out and do what is best for your psyche and your growth, I would certainly hope you to be healthy. But what good does it do if you seek to oppress and police what fiction others want to consume? How do you know they need "protecting" from this? How do you know what is good for them? Who are you to be an authority for them? Is it not just arrogance and holier-than-thou behaviour? (I say this with kindness in my heart) You say you want to help rape victims, but rape victims are the ones who feel better after these acts, so who are you actually protecting? I ask myself these, and maybe these questions will lead to introspection for you as well
I appreciate that you aren't jumping on me for what I'm saying.
I know that the CNC was mutually accepted after Yuan brought it up as Kwan wants only the best for him in every scenario that they go into and will stop at a moments notice should Yuan decide that the type of play isn't for him, and I know he isn't doing it to me personally, but rather someone he is building a relationship with. But that doesn't mean I necessarily want to read the act being committed.
If my comment came off as seeming morally superior, I didn't mean it in that way at all. I was simply expressing a boundary and was hoping that other people with that same boundary would appreciate in seeing that there is someone out there willing to speak about it rather than being silent on the subject as it seems everyone is of the mind "If you don't like it, don't read it" which means the people who don't like it or find something troubling about it should keep their mouths shut just to appease the people that do, and that is disheartening as everyones opinions on anything they read matters.
I get the story is basically porn without plot and it's meant to be sexually gratifying to those who read it, and I was of the same mind as everyone else until I found a boundary in it, and I wanted to talk about it. I have nothing against the author nor the people who enjoy CNC. More power to them. But it's when I or someone else expresses the boundary in a public space that everyone is gung-ho in criticizing them for having a differing opinion rather than, as I previously said, staying silent and moving on.
I feel like in my other message I didn't address the second paragraph well so I'm going to attempt to now without straying into what I said in my other reply.
I acknowledge that a lot of the readers are adults on this website and that they can think for themselves, and read whatever they enjoy while acknowledging that they aren't getting the full picture when it comes to the BDSM lifestyle as, for some manhwa authors, depicting that on paper (digital or otherwise) can be a tedious task when all they want to do is get to drawing what the readers actually want which is the sex aspect of BDSM.
The author more than likely might have made this section to give comfort to those that have had rape done to them as a way of comforting them (I saw your other comment about how reading rape play/CNC can help the victims come to terms with what was done to them), and if that's the case, I applaud the author for addressing something that can be very dark subject matter while depicting it as a choice rather than a force of nature neither Yuan nor Kwan could control.
I hope this addresses the second paragraph better.
Here you go projecting when you obviously weren’t the target audience of my comment. You realize some people consume this content with having experienced it at all and only because they dream of it occuring to them or for them to do it to someone else? Your comment seems much more fitting to your own description. Yes this kind of content is romanticizing it and fetishizing it and no it’s not healthy to do so whether you’re a victim or not but someone being victim and doing so is actually understandable and can be valid while the straight up psychopaths who purposely push this content are the problem. If you don’t relate then move on.
Yay! My favorite blonde with an armpit kink is back! :')
