SEUNGHO’s BACKSTORY
So i wasn’t going to enter this discussion because it was a part of the story I just wanted to be along for the ride & let BD tell the story how & when she wanted. However since so many people have already given their thoughts & yes some of them sound reasonably likely. The one I particularly latched on to is that of SH being used as a scapegoat by his father to save his family. With this I’ll attempt to show my theory of how past events created the ‘monster’ we know today.
Flashback 10 years: SH is in his mid-teens. Thriving in every aspect of life, handsome, athletically & academically unmatched. In every way the definition of a ‘Golden Child’. Beloved & revered by everyone. (Remember: SH telling IH “why would I have books in my library that I haven’t read?”, his prowess in hunting, his physical strength. These aren’t things that come overnight, they are cultivated over many years. Why would so many nobles still stick to this disgraced man? Because of his prior self & their attachment to who he was, the Golden Child. I picture Jihwa & his current fuck buddies clinging to him wanting to bask in his glow. Jihwa hiding his flame all the while hoping to gain SH’s affection)
SH is bright, not just academically but completely aware of the world. He knows his family is in decline. He is working hard not just for himself but for his family who at this point he still loves (at least his little brother). His father seemed to have not been able to achieve any measure of success leaving the family in limbo & is making questionable & shady decisions. However SH is confident & poised for a high govt position once he comes of age & passes the exam.
Behind the scenes father Yoon has been conspiring with other noble families using bribes & sexual favors to leverage power & earn income to keep up appearances. He (the father) has been engaging in sodomy for years (both by choice & for profit), but now he is older & his powerful partners are losing interest in him. He is running out of options & no longer has anything to leverage with EXCEPT - you guessed it - his Golden Child. Who doesn’t want to touch/be touched by the Golden Child? This is how SH is first introduced into a life of sodomy.
(I don’t think SH was ever straight, probably bi or pan considering what a cerebral person he is. So I don’t agree with persons who wrote he is a ‘forced homosexual’ but he was forced into a sexual life with people with which he held no emotional attachment - See how detached & aloof SH is with his current partners)
SH is propositioned by his father to engage in sex to maintain the family’s power & image. SH of course refuses, assuring his father that he will be able to do so by legitimate means & they shouldn’t have to degrade themselves (but at this point SH is still not of age & years away from being eligible to enter office). The father is desperate; if they were to wait their position would only further dwindle & make it clear his incompetence & that he was the one who ran their family into the ground. His pride gets the better of him. Father Yoon then suggests if SH won’t do it then he would offer his little bro instead *SNAP(there goes the first thread of SH’s sanity)* realizing how far his father will go just to protect his image, he agrees to it to protect his innocent lil bro.
The servants pretty SH up to serve him to the nobles, he catches his reflection & doesn't recognize this shaking nervous figure *SNAP* he decides that if he must engage in these activities then he would be the one to have the upper hand. He after all was THE Golden Child, every one should be honored to have him for their partner. (Notice how SH is always dominant & in control even when his partner gets on top or is giving him a BJ) He enters into his first orgy where he was supposed to be like a lamb to slaughter with a whole new perspective - refusing to be seen as a victim, this is the first time we see SH with *those* (I’m invincible, I will eat you alive) eyes, not a lamb but a wolf, not just a wolf but the leader of the pack.
He isn’t attracted to his partners in fact he’s disgusted by them but does find himself enjoying an audience. (Now we see how SH came to not caring where or who sees. Also partly why he’s so shocked by NK being seemingly repulsed by him. Not just that he is a noble but that he is SH whose ego has been built upon being wanted by everyone & then memories of how he was repulsed by his early partners made him feel like he was now one of those disgusting pervs who’d sought to ‘eat’ him up.) But the ‘invincible’ SH is yet to be solidified, he is still shaken (who wouldn’t be), he sticks to his innocent little bro like glue not only to protect him but for comfort as well. I picture his nightmares starting around this time & him cuddling his bro to get to sleep like he did with NK.
He continues the sexual favors but the plan begins to crumble as investigation begins & threaten to uncover all those involved. As we see those other families have been violently purged. THIS is where SH being the scapegoat begins. Father Yoon the prick he is, once again sacrifices his son. He concocts this plan to make a huge to do (with the cutting of SH’s topknot, uprooting the whole family, abandoning his home & firstborn son). He puts it out there that SH’s golden image was merely to cover up his depraved life & that SH was so power-hungry that he was the one who had gone astray & that he the father had no idea of the illegal actions & felt so disgraced that he had no choice but to abandon his house (& son). *SNAPS* After all he’d done to please his father this is how he repays him (Now we see partly why SH is trying to get NK to see IH for what he is & is so conscious of how NK is being manipulated by IH) It seemed to have worked since the Yoons have survived the purge. But why was SH spared if he was a part of these illegal dealings? I think even though he was young his reputation saved him & he had friends in high places, he’d been stripped of just about everything, they left him be. No one could believe how he’d fallen. Suddenly the eyes of all those who’d once revered him showed shock & disgust, the rumors, the constant whispers *SNAPS* SH embraces his newfound image.
He continues his life of sodomy. He obviously has no hope of becoming a high-powered official (leaving him secretly heartbroken how everything he’d worked for had been ripped from him). His past reputation allows him to build a fair household, nothing compared to what he would’ve had he not taken the fall but he saw what happened to the others & understands what the alternative would’ve been. He accepts his situation as best he can.
Sex becomes a form of escapism for him, but his past trauma leads to performance issues leading him to seek out various ways to ‘get off’. I think Jihwa offers SH his body as source of comfort thinking now “I’m all he has, surely he’ll come to love me soon enough”.
(Now all this is in part his recent reluctance with NK’s advances. Is he doing this for IH -like he did to please his father? NK’s also doing this to ‘escape’ from something - which SH doesn’t want. Is he truly accepting himself or simply feeling so helpless that he’s given in like SH himself did - again something SH doesn’t want. NK’s innocence was a source of attraction, his naive pure reactions even resisting SH’s advances were so different from anything he’d encountered until now. Somehow SH feels heartbroken by NK seemingly losing that ‘innocence’).
I think it obvious how a life like this can lead to the violent outbursts & constant power plays. Having had all power ripped from him. His future irreparably compromised. SH’s whole life now is a game of chess he refuses to lose. He uses his head, reads people easily, a strategist through & through. But now there’s NK, as transparent as he is, somehow SH can’t understand him & he is being pulled by something that is not his head (or penis).
I was actually worried what IH would do once he realized that NK is SH’s weakness (remember he begged NK to find it) but the idiot already lost his advantage by acting rashly & basically throwing NK into SH’s arms.
Do you mean to say he was "raped" by older men? As in "forcibly made to bottom"?

I really like potn, not only because of the art, but also because of how well the story and the characters' personalities seem to be planned. SH is much more human than what many see, and that's showed in several scenes. He's a character that intrigues me a lot and I was afraid that his past might disappoint me, but after looking at your theory I'm almost sure that it will be something similar (and I can't wait to see it T-T)
This is a great theory. I agree with everything except the idea that he had the upper-hand when he was forced into sodomy. It would make a lot more sense if he was the one being dominated instead. Like you said, he's domineering in every sex scene we've seen so far, to me it's like he's purposely repelling other people trying to dominate him, because it's a reminder of those times he was raped. Him being the dominant one now is his way of trying to gain control back. Being penetrated is more traumatizing than doing the act, and it seems Seungho is genuinely traumatized by whatever happened to him in the past.
Another thing, it seems Seungho has a thing for pleasuring his partners, or otherwise he cannot enjoy it either. But with Nakyum it seems he wants him so bad that this obsession makes him lose control of himself. In that one rape scene, Seungho has this look on his face when he realizes Nakyum isn't hard. It's like reality has just slapped him and he realizes he's doing the same thing that was once being done to him, so he stops. Seungho gets really somber and pensive whenever he makes Nakyum cry. He feels guilty, because he's aware he has become an abuser himself.
Yeah, I really can't picture him bottoming. But it'd be really sad if he was made to have sex with others when he didn't want to, that'd really be a big changing point in his life if it's true then he'll be having a hard time going back to normal again. I hope this story doesn't end up going the darker route like Killing stalking did tho.
I don't think it has so much to do with wanting to please his partner, but more that he is so used to being wanted and having partners be more than willing to be with him. So when he sees NK totally limp & further more telling him he hates him so much he could die, that takes him back to his earlier days and rattles his ego. Of course the partner will find pleasure in it if he wants to do it, but you also see him go off when he sees NK's first (torn-up) painting & screwed Jihwa hard, not really thinking of Jihwa's pleasure but Jihwa's willing & goes along with whatever SH wants, this is what SH is used to - people just going along with all his whims and fancies.
I see your point. But if you notice, during those scenes he mistreated Jihwa, he was actually thinking about Nakyum. It’s all somehow tied back to Nakyum, because he’s the one that makes him lose control. He wasn’t really focusing on Jihwa, hence he didn’t realize he was actually hurting him.
Is gonna fail. Wouldn't make any sense any other way. The only person I'm worried about dying is the loyal servant (which would be so sad for NK because that's the only person he has in his corner :() but because he's always by his side he's likely to get in the way & end up dead unfortunately.
Jihwa looked worried so maybe he'll have a change of heart & call it off. & if he doesn't SH is definitely gonna step in & protect NK - I already described a scenario where SH gets injured in a prediction post from even before CH43.
Since most seem to ship Jihwa w/ no name (tbh I couldn't care less, I just want him to go away), I think it'd be good to humble him since he kept going on about NK's status. I think he'll be drunk & crying out on the town & run into no name on the street who'll take him home & 'comfort' him. I'm fine with any scenario, as long as Jihwa let's our MCs relationship develop & takes the hint that SH was never & will never be his. Hopefully no name will give him a proper dicking so he can forget SH's.
