I don’t mind the art style shift. It was gradual enough that I didn’t really notice, even on a full reread. The colours in the beginning were very flat and pale. And this is the kind of story that you knew exactly how it was gonna end from chapter 1. If you’re surprised it’s bc you lack awareness, duh. I read BL for the cute boys and idc if they’re “too moe”. If you look closely, Haebum didn’t melt and tell Ryujin he’s perfect until he saw the cigarette scar he left on Ryujin’s temple. Guys like these don’t love the person, they love what they can do to them or the way they can change and manipulate them. You hear it again when he says that Ryujin’s going to eat the “Dragon” with him. In the book you can hear more of their internal monologue with makes it easier to spell those things out, so from an artist’s standpoint the subtly of that is exceptionally done. Doesn’t make Haebum less of a monster though
Idc I’m gonna say it, I think it’s also a WASTE that this won’t be mpreg. The author said on X that BotWK is connected historically to Smyrna and Capri (takes place thousands of years before SaC I believe) but that this world doesn’t have mpreg. I just think that with Tei’s obvious desire (twice now he’s lamented over not being able to carry Shuraka’s child) to carry a baby and to help Shuraka spread his seed — which will literally KILL HIM if he doesn’t btw — leaves us, the audience, disappointed. If the story was just about them, why should Tei care so much? Or include that bit about Shuraka’s seed poisoning him? For the angst? Idk… I’m obviously not the author and we can’t pretend to know what they’re thinking, but if they’ve done mpreg before why not now?! I think out of all of their stories Shuraka might actually be the most obsessed with his partner. Adding a baby would only make it better imo
I fear it's for the angst and plot T^T them not having babies is tragic but seeing Tei crash out over Shu dying would also be good to see
