Tbh. Back then, before our law had ever implemented that a grown man marrying a young girl is a crime. Back then, it was inevitable for young girls to marry someone older than them, twice their age in fact, and no young noble girls were ever freed from responsibility of marrying a grown man. Let's just be glad that the law was already implemented (however there is still some countries that allowed grown men to marry young girls or kidnapping, raping, etc. these girls without the society noticing anything.), and from what I read, the ML truly wanted to act as an older brother figure or father figure for the MC but everyone around kept pushing in that they are married couple so yeah the Ml decided to treat her respectfully and carefully protecting her and MC decided to do her duty as his wife. Its both their choice and put boundaries between them. They respect each other and hold each other as an important person.
