So to answer your questions. The rival perfumer wasn’t the one who decided to copy them, but the 5th Prince. With the size of that shop, and the number of different perfumes she clearly doesn’t need to steal concepts (she didn’t steal the recipes since they are knock offs)and is selling plenty of her own perfume. The point in stealing them is not to boost her own business, but destroy the FL’s. If I can buy an I-phone in store I’m not going to buy a G-phone from somebody off the street for the same price who swears the I-phone copied them or invest huge amounts of money in making a G-phone when I could be accused of just copying the I-phone. And even if I believed the G-phone came first it doesn’t matter because it is still an especially bad investment because no one is going to go to your store if your biggest selling product is the G-phone which will then have a huge uphill battle having to compete with the already popular I-phone.
This is why FL needed to stay up all night creating a new business plan and perfume for the ball that night as she could no longer use her previous perfumes.
As for the 5th Prince this is somewhat speculation, but here’s my guess on his plan. First, I think he wants her to know it’s him because the main point in him doing any of this in the first place is to hurt the ML. So he wants to be semi open about it so ML knows. Anyway, his mistake is thinking FL will be easy to crush. I think the plan is to destroy her business and reputation and then once she is desperate offer a helping hand. And then offer her a deal to go out with him to get back at the ML. He also doesn’t seem to have a high opinion of her as he believes she’ll be easy to seduce

I don’t think she thinks they are crap. I think she thinks they are just as good. Remember she never said she thought they were crap and neither did the FL. The only one who said they were crap was the ML. As poor plebs, if it wasn’t for FL’s perfumes magical effects, I don’t think you or I would be able to tell the difference. The reason she copied them is because they are so good. If they were crap I don’t think she’d let them in the store. Then again I don’t think she’d feel threatened if they were crap
