Kaoru loved akira, not because he is brocest but because he was homo. So kaoru is not liable to keep the promise after the "big truth" and
akira's loss of memory. Akira did not love kaoru at all. He was in only for the sex hoping to get his "father" jealous. What akira's "father" did was out of guilt (i mean the suicide). As for akira, i feel sad for the poor kid that he lost his beloved uncle. But he seemed quite content doing it with kouru (who was just a "stranger"), so he'll be ok.
