it's adapted from a novel and the novel has a lot going on after this part. So far there's a lot of relationship stuff mixed in with more plot

i dont think it is, i think the popularity option filters it out by how many people marked the work as read/or just put it on their lists, bc the amount of reviews dont line up from most to least either
