Although might be unfair for some people, whether it might be better financial stability or status, someone’s ignorance shouldn’t be the cause of hate. I don’t really agree that in life you need to know everything. Sometimes being ignorant leads you to happiness or at least a restricted one. I don’t think it’s a wrong choice, it’s an option.
Personally, i would find her frivolousness a bit annoying : how can a person be so out of touch. However life is indeed unfair. Her sort of innocence and attitude before the revolution were results of what she went through her life as a well-respected noble, and her own personality (the fact that she is so afraid of many thing and the fact that she wasn’t exposed and given the chance to know more about politics, simply bc the family kept it well —> favours the chances of her being likely ignorant about other kind of problems and focus over “trivial” things). One thing is be aware of the problem but don’t do anything and another is not be aware.
I don’t really agree with what happened during chapter 14 : it was selfishness of the ginger lady to spill the whole truth. She wanted to feel satisfied for her own benefit. I mean FL sort of agreed to know the truth, but I don’t think she needed to apologise. It’s not her fault to be born and more so just to be like that.
I might defend the FL, but I am sure if I will truly act like this way if I were in the ginger lady situation. It’s something irrational to be predicted so ill give the benefit of doubt.
(If you don’t agree , please don’t attack me and just argue back in a gentle manner thanks)

ooo thats such a interesting view!!!! Thank you so much for your input. LOL its kinda funny how we both wrote a longgg comment about if ignorance is a sin!!!! AND 10 min APART.... great minds think alike..... It was very interesting how our views differ especially concerning the ginger lady situation. Personally i believe that this situation was needed in order to shed light in the other perspective of this "argument" as we are constantly in the fls pov. Through the ginger ladys story we are able to take a glimpse of how truly twisted the actions of fls dad was and the many ppl he hurted. Her ignorance at the piano recital is directly contrasted to the ginger ladys sufferings. I think that the main issue/conflict is the existence of nobility. The skewed power balance that allows the fl dad to abuse his power just cause of his nobility. The fact that her privilege allows her to be ignorant to the innocent deaths. Her fault does not solely rely on the fact shes the daughter of the man but her ignorance and privilege compared to the people of the poor. Im pretty sure ppl have different perspectives of privilege and if thats even a "fault" but its something you have to recognize and understand like its a bit complicated...!!! Im not so sure about my position as well

I think what you say makes sense, that chapter was a great example to portray two different realities, both existing at the timeline. Regarding the “chat” with the ginger lady, the fl was given the option to refuse to listen, so agreeing to meet the ginger lady was somehow accepting to take whatever she was kept away from. I am not sure about the kind topic she was expecting to , but I assume it was knowing the truth : the ginger lady is anyway the sister of the one who shot her so I don’t expect her to talk about the weather or else :/// I am not either defending the action of the fl father, however it’s unfortunate to think that once she was one of most envied suddenly turns to be opposite. But more so, what was so upsetting was knowing that at the end she is a good willed person (she tried to understand the reason why the revolution broke, and I assume later the wrongdoing of her father), despite her younger self still unaware of the ugly side of society. The revolution was something that was going to happen, however the betrayal she felt when discovering that everything she knew was fake : betrayal from her husband and betrayal from her father sort of. People didn’t even try to understand her, and to a certain length not even her husband, only knowing that she’s a threat.
One thing however that I was wondering about was the reason why the fl apologised to the ginger lady. I often see situations like this one and the outcome would be always one : expressing regret for the wrongdoings of the one who was once beloved by the apologiser.
Personally I’d find it “unfair” , since it’s not even the latter who did the action. Honestly I find hard to tell on how I would act in such situations ( I feel a bit conflicted like actions coming from all these character had a reason and justified !!! My brain is going to have an overload haha ) , however your main comment cleared the doubt that I holding for a long time. Great mind indeed hehe

I'm going through comments right now because I like to see everyone's view point and what not, so sorry for a 2 day later reply. On the point when fl apologizes to ginger I think she is apologizing for her ignorance, at least that's how I took it. Since, it showed the recital flashback and she recognized it was the same woman that was dragged away. It's like she looks back and wishes she would've known almost because I feel she would think she could've done something. At least that's me speculating and I know realistically she really didn't have the power to do anything, but I feel like she wishes she could've done something. I love this discussion btw.
