First, Mitarai was tipped off about the politician by a "source", which is why he took Aki to do the work of getting the picture that night. We later find out that the politician was working with Sudou on the side, and there was a deal involving selling weapons stolen from Asami, and that Sudau and the buyers were using Asami's smuggling routes without Asami's permission. On the night Aki took the photo, Sudou was crying on Asami's shoulder while apologize for "losing" the goods he had just stolen, and Sudou was distracting Asami from the fact that Sudou had sent his girl Aya/Mayu to the politician with whom Sudou had a deal on the side.

After the photograph was printed, Sudou pulled Aya/Mayu out of the club Sudou managed for Asami, and hid her in Sudou's private members only club (and lied to Asami and Kuroda about it). Aki was looking for Aya/Mayu as a favor to Ai. Aki didn't know Aya/Mayu is tight with Sudou, or that there was more to the photograph than a politician having an affair.

After overhearing Kuroda speaking with Aki, Aki volunteers to find Mitarai's source for Asami (but Aki was going to look for the girl anyway). It turns out Mitarai's source was Sakazaki, who we later finds out has been working for Mikhail. Mitarai only gives up Sakaski when it looks like Mitarai has become a liability that could be sacrificed.

For those of you keeping score at home, that means there are at least two groups working against Asami. Group one is Aaron, the politician, gun runners and their pet Sudou, and his pet Aya/Mayu. Group two is Mikhail, Sakazaki, Mitrial and now Sudou. Kuroda thought that the "source' (group two) was working against ASsami, but maybe they are more interested in causing problems for group one. Group one thinks Asami owes them because Sudou was one of his, even though Sudou was not working with Asami's knowledge or approval. It seems as if group one has plenty of men and firepower even without the weapons Kuroda seized (presumably those are being held by the Japanese government).

Oh, I forgot, Mitarai said the politician was embezzling money from the government too, and that the girl (Aya/Mayu) stole money form "guys" (as in this is something she does a lot). Sudou told Asami she ran away with the money (from the politician--presumably that he had embezzled). The girl and the money ended up with Sudou though. I am not sure if Sudou has both the money which was embezzled and a payment for guns, or if the embezzled money was to pay for guns.

Do we know if Mitarai deliberately ensured Akihito took the photo of Representative Kamiyama and Aoki Mayu by faking his stomach troubles? It would mean Akihito was the one who drew Kuroda's attention, but I'm not sure if we're supposed to draw that inference or not. Mitarai keeps Akihito's camera after they go out drinking saki, and I'm not sure if that's meant to be relevant.

A couple of leaps in logic there. Mitarai is a slickster and not above manipulating Aki when it's useful to him, but he's so clueless when the flower pot is dropped on him that I doubt he knew what he had gotten into, much less that he was openly working for Sakazaki.

Also, when did we "know" that Sakazaki was working "for" Mikhail? All we are told is that Mikhail is Sakazaki's "biggest customer," which I took to mean that Sakazaki supplies prostitutes for Mikhail. It could be drugs, since we know Sakazaki put Aki in contact with the aphrodisiac drug dealer, but I doubt Mikhail would need Sakazaki for drugs. So prostitutes seems more likely. In any case, that doesn't mean Sakazaki is working for Mikhail, just that they have a business relationship and wouldn't necessarily put Sakazaki on any "team" against Asami.

Maybe "team" implies a more than I want it to--they are not a team of equals nor are they a formal organization, but they are connected. Maybe it would be better too say that Mitarai is Sakazaki's pawn, and Sakzaki has been working either with Mikhail's backing or for Mikhail's interests. The connections in this "team" are lose and dependent on individual deals instead of a boss-subordinate relationship, but for this game they are on the same side.

Mitarai seems to know more about what is going on than Aki. Mitarai knows the photo involved an embezzler, and not just and affair, and Mitarai knew Aya/Mayu took money from many clients. This is much more information than he gave Aki at first, and it shows Mitarai's first story to be a lie. Also, no matter what Mitarai said to Aki, Mitarai was quick to call Sakazaki after the flowerpot fell. I doubt Mitarai knew about Mikhail. It's not something he would need to know. Nor would Mitarai be "openly" working for Sakazaki. "Open" is the antithesis of their philosophy. They are all about information that holds value as long as only a few people have access to it. "Open" spoils the value of what they have.

Sakazaki's type of procurement involves information as well as hosts, drugs and sex workers. In fact, he implies he trains his sex workers to obtain information--the same way Aya/Mayu gets money and information. So it's obvious that Sakazaki is sleazy, but that isn't the point. Sakazaki is like Littlefinger from Game of Thrones and he is playing a long game. Sakazaki tells Aki that Sakazaki won't give information to someone working for Asami because Sakazaki doesn't want to work for the big bosses. Then Sakazaki calls Mikhail his best customer. While Mikhail may like sex workers, I think it more likely Mikhail would want information. Does it seem like Sakazaki would procure Sudou to have just to sex with Mikahil? I think it's more likely that the main reason for getting Sudou is because of what Sudou knows. That would mean that in this matter, Sakazaki is working with Mikhail against Asami (and has been since Sakazaki provided the "tip" on the politician to Matarai). .

This circles back to why I think it was no coincidence Mitrarai involved Aki in the original photo. On that night, Mitarai calls at 3 am for a potty break (something he ate for lunch--whatever). Mitarai claims it's just a case of a politician and a girl. Mitarai says he's been tailing the politician, but he's actually waiting at a spot where the politician is supposed to show up (rather than following the politician). Mitarai was told to wait there at that time, and Mitarai knows more than he tells Aki. Whether Mitarai called Aki in because of bathroom issues or whether that was pretense, Mitarai called Aki in to do the work.

By accident or design, Sakazaki has been trying to recruit Aki throughout the story. Maybe the "other business" Mitarai mentions when he calls Sakazaki was not the matter of getting Aki involved in the photo of the politician, maybe it was. In any case, Sakazaki certainly wanted to put Aki in a compromising position with regard to Asami. The photo was the start of that (at least as far as Sakazaki is concerned). This is the opposite of Sakazaki's attitude in the last story. What's the difference? Mikhail.

Mikhail's role was a big reveal, so we may not know how much of this was due to Mikhail pulling strings from the shadows. I think it is safe to say that Sakazaki would not act against Asami if Sakazaki didn't feel secure in Mikhail's backing. Besides, it would seem kind of random to introduce Mikhail to Sudou if it is simply a matter of Sakazaki providing Mikhail with sex workers. From a storytelling standpoint, I think it makes more sense to reveal Mikhail at his time because Mikhail has been there secretly pursuing his own agenda all along.
