The sporadic love-hate relationship I had with this manhwa lmfao. The art style was SO beautiful, and I loved the dynamic between Jaeyong and Sangwoo so much, but god DAMN was the progression in this was agonizingly slow. Shit pissed me off badddd. It was like 90+ chapters of miscommunication, the exact same conflict, and excruciating chase with little payoff. The characters only get together in the last chapter and then the whole manhwa immediately ends. Like COME ON. I need a good 80:20 chase to relationship ratio and a side couple thrown in for fun. It just felt like the main couple had the same argument over and over and over, and that whenever there was any progress, things would just revert to how they were at the start. It just felt like the relationship was being dragged for an unnecessary amount of time considering how unsatisfying the ending is. Honestly, I found the character of Sangwoo to be really unlikeable, and that he only becomes slightly more likeable at the end. Not to mention Jaeyoung's character seemed to flip mid-way through the story as well in a way that was too abrupt to be written off as character development. First it seemed like he was sort of an alternative-delinquent character who didn't care about academics, but was secretly an extremely gifted and passionate artist who wanted to start a career abroad. But then, he ends up being more of a put-together, well dressed, wealthy guy from old money?? And then kind of cares about school and work?? A really fun part of the story was seeing an opposite side of Jaeyoung when he was working at his fancy-restaurant job, as well as when he was pretending to be a proper upperclassman to get Sangwoo to like him. So it takes away from this contrast when his original flippant nature and punk style ends up dissolving. I really loved Jaeyoung at first, but it felt like his character was discarded halfway through. It also seemed like the original plot got completely abandoned, and that the direction of the manhwa flipped on a dime like three separate times in a way that NEVER made sense. I literally couldn't even relay to you the events that happened in this plot wise because it was so inconsistent. And can we talk about that one borderline rape-y chapter where Jaeyong takes advantage of Sangwoo when he's drunk??? Yeahhh....it's a no from me babes. Both characters did some very questionable things. HOWEVER, I did get wicked obsessed with this manhwa and couldn't tear myself away from reading it; I was absolutely enthralled. The art is so gorgeous, and each chapter is in full-color with a really impressive and different coloring style then you normally see in manhwa. There were also a lot of redeeming parts which also pulled me back in, and it would be a lie to say that I didn't love reading it. I have to give credit where credit is due, and this manhwa is really impressively well done. I just had a lot of problems with the overall plot and character choices from the author, but since this is adapted from a novel, none of this is the manhwa author's fault. All in all I would definitely say that Semantic Error is a classic and must read manhwa.
