We don’t call BL yaoi the only reason people do cause most BL are full with yaoi and stuff and some are jus full on the dating plots or there student life and shit but because there are many sex scenes and yk dirty naughty stuff goin on lmaooo people say yaoi (from my opinion)
I thought this was normal? Like BL is an umbrella term that encapsulates yaoi and shounen ai, but yaoi implies that it's a bit more sexual? Is yaoi outdated?????

BL is the all encompassing term for any romantic or sexual story in any form of media between two or more males. Yaoi is specifically male x male manga from Japan that has sexual content. Shounen Ai is male x male manga from Japan that doesn't have sexual content. It's not outdated it's a specific term for a specific thing. BL can be shows, movies, manga, mahwa, webtoons, and other media. Yaoi is only Japanese manga. Also the categories on most manga sites list yaoi and shounen ai not BL.

Yaoi= boy x boy that has sex in it..
Shounen ai= boy x boy that has NO sex in it..
Honestly If someone wants some recs and they are asking for BLs I don't really know what they exactly want. So using terms like yaoi or shounen-ai it makes it easier to understand. It just a term for me nothing more nothing less...

let me clarify i meant to say that "yaoi" is an outdated term in japan, it literally was only used for basically porn. just the fact that we are still using it is like :/ cmon if you want to read a BL with sex scenes, just say spicy or mature or even 18+

Just because the term is outdated in Japan, doesn’t mean that we can’t use it here. And the meaning is the same as mature BL, so don’t really get how it’s stupid. It’s just an easy way to convey the same thing. I genuinely don’t get why this is important to you.

Well, bl means boys love. Yaoi is just boys love, but has a lot of sexual scenes. Shounen ai is just boys love, but without sexual scenes and focuses more on their relationship (most of the time its school life)

That's your personal opinion. Language evolves. Yaoi is the term English speaking people use to refer to gay manga from Japan with sex in it. It doesn't matter what people now call it in Japan. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's going to change how manga sites list it nor is it going to change how people describe it. As evidenced by the many responses no one agrees with your view point so far.
Whenever theres a manga/manhwa/manhua with some sort of animal hybrid they always have a double set of ears (⊙…⊙ ) Like do you think they hear stuff from both ears? I rlly appreciate it when an author makes it so they only have one set of ears, anybody else? LOL im not hating btw I just think its funny.

It all depends on the art style. If the art is very “basic” it would look weird but if the art is unique the author should be able to hide the fact that they don’t have human ear on their side

i think it's weirder to have 2 sets of ears, since they are hybrid(or something that "transforms") like its doesnt make sense to me, they grow a tail and like their real ears grow into the type of anime ear. like doesnt that make more sense
same it just doesn’t look good on characters with short hair
