Neither of them is toxic. It's their parents that are toxic. Toxic relationships leave trauma. Neither have caused each other trauma, but their parents have. Because they are so pressured by them, they could never outright admit their feelings for one another. Haesoo retreated inward and Joowon tried to convince ce himself he was indifferent. Did they hurt each other? Yup. But that's not enough to consider their relationship toxic. It was certainly sad, but so is Haesoo's relationship with Taku. He is, again, running away from facing his feelings for Joowon because he's scared. His mother put the fear of rejection into him and he doesn't feel worthy enough to feel he's capable of being loved by anyone. His mother already rejected him before, so what's to stop her from doing it again? He also is terrified of being rejected by Joowon if he's reading too much into their relationship. So he shut down and decided not to look too closely until his mom popped up and decided to throw the precarious balance he had going off by saying she was remarrying Joowon's dad. He had to make a choice: lose the person he loves that he isnt even sure loves him back, or lose his only family? It was sort of "rather the devil you know" situation. He would rather deal with the suppression of his mother cause he's been doing that already for so many years than deal with the unknown of Joowon. With Taku, Haesoo isn't trying to move on at all. He's trying to distract himself from, well, himself. He's a very sad, very lonely man and so is Joowon. The time away from each other will do them good. If they grow up enough in the meantime and learn to face themselves, they might be able to face each other and have a strong, healthy relationship, whether that's romantic or not. Looks like Joowon is about 70% there. Maybe 60%. But Haesoo is only about 25% 30% at most. He's either gonna have an epiphany (most likely given the exhibition coming up), or he's going to step away from it all and take some time for himself without interference from anyone.

If it saved the time of rereading the whole thing (in case you didn't want to) then qt least it dic something. Lol. But yes, sometimes we have more of a visceral reaction to emotional pain rather than physical. This is riddled with emotional pain a lot of people can relate to in one way or another. If it's still a fresh pain, it can make it hard to continue to read. I hope there's a happy ending for Joowon and Haesoo, but I would be fine if Haesoo chooses no one.
