Outside of the contents of the story, this what you see in almost all R-Rated love triangle stories? It is already unrealistic (still possible even if barely) but it's for entertainment, it's drama for us to consume. We read and watch dramas because investing in someone else's life and problems is better to us than focusing on our own issues. And it's fiction, of course it is going to be THIS messy. It's supposed to be a steamy drama with a love triangle, that is the purpose. People need to stop acting like the characters are real people in their lives, and this is all made up.
