I added my recap with Yeesh's recap. Note this is long...

Story summary:

Yeesh's recap first:

Yeesh's recap:

Yeesh: "Ok! So, basically, it's been 4 years since Yashiro "forgot" Doumeki after he got extremely injured by Hirata--the guy that Yashiro was trying to expose in earlier chapters.

(If you don't remember that much, let me know and I'll go into more detail on that situation).

Yashiro is now running an illegal casino/financial backer, and Doumeki has joined a new yakuza group (after leaving Yashiro's yakuza group).

Now, both Yashiro and the yakuza group Doumeki joined are separately chasing this guy named Kido.

Kido owes Yashiro's business money (which is why Yashiro is chasing him), and Kido is also wanted by the yakuza for a hit and run on one of their men (which is why Doumeki is chasing him).

Most recently, Doumeki learned that Yashiro was also chasing Kido and found out about Yashiro new casino/financial backer.

To explain the first scene in chapter 40, Doumeki is trying to find out more about Yashiro's actions. (Also, the phone call the guy was asking about in chapter 40 was the one Doumeki made at the end of chapter 39 to ask about where Yashiro was-- Note: I just wanna make sure that conversation doesn't confuse you when you get there).

I really hope this helps!! Let me know if you need more than that." [Yeesh recap ends]

*My recap: I added more info.*

My recap:

Me: "Someone asked if Yashiro knew about Doumeki new life with a different group.

I am going to say, most likely not.

*One* of the reasons Yashiro left Doumeki is because Yashiro didn't want Doumeki to be a yakuza.

Which is why Yashiro pretended to have amnesia. Remember that Yashiro was hit in the head in the attack. *See Chapter 34, page 36.

At the hospital, Yashiro stated that he had no memory of Doumeki due to the head injury. [*See Chapter 35, page 34, and also *See Chapter 35.5 page 3 - page 7.]

(Note: At chapter 22, page 25, Yashiro notes that Doumeki has only worked with Yashiro for 3 months.)

So they have been together for a short time, only 3 months.

Which is why the amnesia story isn't farfetched, Yashiro is stating that he lost his memory of the last three months with Doumeki.

Yashiro is lying and everyone knows he is lying, but it's still a "believable" lie.

*For clarification: Yashiro doesn't have amnesia, he just pretending to have amnesia. He fully remembers Doumeki.*

So Yashiro pushed Doumeki away to protect Doumeki.

Side note: (And Yashiro also pushed Doumeki away to protect himself, emotionally)...

Yashiro wanted Doumeki to have a normal life, like before he met Yashiro.

Also Yashiro doesn't believe that he, Yashiro, is deserving of a normal/happy life.

Yashiro feels that his childhood broke him and it is too late to fix him. *He said something like this in Chapter 34, pages 26 - 29.*

But, Yashiro can still save Doumeki, he is not in too deep. And Doumeki only tie to the yakuza life is Yashiro.

So, if Yashiro breaks ties with Doumeki, then he saves Doumeki.

Which is why Yashiro wants Doumeki away from him and out of the mob/gang business.

For Doumeki's part, Doumeki realizes that his only tie to Yashiro is being a yakuza.

So instead of leaving the yakuza life after Yashiro left him, Doumeki went further in, thereby permanently bonding himself with Yashiro.

He is doing the opposite of what Yashiro wanted.

This is why Yashiro is shocked when he finds out that Doumeki is the person with all of the scars on his face.

Note: Triggers for Yashiro

-Doumeki getting injured is one of Yashiro's triggers.

*See Chapter 20, page 36 [Yashiro is having a flashback of Doumeki getting shot, the bullet grazed Doumeki's check; which resulted in a scar]. *See 10.5, page 14 - page 15. And *See Chapter 11 pages 8 - 9.

-And another trigger for Yashiro is Doumeki acting violent, in relation to his yakuza life/work, aka Doumeki acting like a yakuza.

*See Chapter 12, page 7 and *See Chapter 13, page 9 for Yashiro's flashback of Doumeki being violent.

The scars on Doumeki's face: In a way, it's literally Doumeki "cutting" ties with his old life (the former police/morally pure guy) and trying his best to stay with Yashiro by becoming a "full-yakuza".

Again, this is the opposite of what Yashiro wanted for Doumeki.

Note: Doumeki only had the 1 cut on his cheek when Yashiro last saw him.

So the description of a scary man with multiple scars wouldn't have caused Yashiro to think she was talking about Doumeki.

Which is also why Yashiro is shocked it's Doumeki she referring to in her description.

-Starting at Chapter 35, page 39, 4 years have passed (aka 4 years later).

*35.5 is a flashback chapter.*

Stories Time Log:

- Chapter 22, page 25 is 3 month into them knowing each other. [3 months after their 1st meeting]

- Chapter 1 to Chapter 35, page 38 is about 4 or 5 months long (Note: I added 1 to 2 months of hospital recovery for Yashiro and Doumeki).
[4 to 5 months after their first meeting]

- Chapter 35, page 39 and everything from chapter 36 and after (not including flashbacks) is 4 years later. [4 years and 4 to 5 months after their first meeting]

Note: So, Yashiro and Doumeki have known each other for 4 years and about 5 months.

But, they have been apart more then they have been together in those 4 years and about ~5 months.

And they feel in love within 3 months of meeting.

(New) Chapter 40:

Yashiro is having a dream of Doumeki.

In the dream, Doumeki finds Yashiro, which causes Yashiro to run from Doumeki.

After Yashiro gets away from Doumeki in the dream, Yashiro looks back to see if Doumeki is still there chasing him.

Yashiro sees that Doumeki is not chasing after him because Doumeki is not there anymore.

Doumeki has disappeared. Everyone has disappeared.

And Yashiro realizes that he, Yashiro, is now alone and lonely (aka missing Doumeki).

Yashiro then wakes up from the dream.

After waking up, Yashiro states that he cannot remember Doumeki face anymore because it's been so long since they saw each other. Doumeki face is just a blur.

Yashiro implies that Doumeki is just a past memory, a past ghost, and that's it.

Basically, Yashiro still doesn't recognize how much he misses Doumeki, he is still in denial of his feelings for Doumeki. And how deep his feeling for Doumeki are.

[Later in the story] Yashiro just wants to find Kido before the other group/the gang finds Kido.

Notes: (1) Yashiro doesn't know that Doumeki is involved in a gang. (2) And therefore, Yashiro does not know that Doumeki is with the gang that is also trying to find Kido.

Remember that Yashiro thinks that Doumeki left the mob/gang business.

Yashiro thinks Doumeki has returned to a normal/safe life.

Readers find out that Doumeki and Kamiya's boss, I don't remember their boss's name, but their boss wants Kamiya to spy on Doumeki to see if Doumeki is really loyal to the gang.

Kamiya thinks Doumeki's actions/behavior is weird, but Doumeki is focused on finding Kido to try and catch up with Yashiro.

Yeesh's recap already explained that Doumeki realizes that Yashiro is also looking for Kido.

Basically Doumeki put two and two together and it equal our favorite "dysfunctional and eccentric former gangster/current illegal casino owner," aka Yashiro. *See Chapter 39, page 22.

Doumeki clearly knows Yashiro and Yashiro's actions well.

Kamiya figures out that Doumeki is trying to find his old gang, which is why Kamiya tells their boss to look into Doumeki's old gang whereabouts and current jobs, aka Yashiro and his casino.

Basically to dig into Doumeki's past.

Basically, Kamiya thinks that Doumeki's true loyalty is with his old gang (and so does Kamiya's and Doumeki's boss).

Kamiya is also spying on Doumeki and reporting back to their boss on Doumeki, so if Kamiya states something bad about Doumeki, it's bad for Doumeki.

So whatever Doumeki does in chapter 41, Kamiya is watching and Kamiya will report to their boss on Doumeki.

So, the "wrong" report from Kamiya could endanger Doumeki.

So watch out for Kamiya's reaction to Doumeki's actions, words, and behaviors in Chapter 41.

Kamiya will be closely watching Doumeki.

And Kamiya will know something is up because Yashiro called out Doumeki's name at the end of chapter 40.

Which will let Kamiya know that Doumeki and Yashiro know each other.

And possibly, Nanahara's reaction to Doumeki.

And Kamiya will likely figure out that Yashiro is who Doumeki used to work for, which is already Kamiya's suspicion.

So watch out for Kamiya, he and his actions are a wild card.

Again, Kamiya will be watching everything Doumeki does closely.

Chapter 40 notes: (At the Bridge) Yashiro calls Doumeki naive because they both want the same guy.

And their professions/jobs [gangster and gambling money collector/illegal casino owner] doesn't rely on peaceful disagreement.

Aka, they are enemies at war for the same prize. And peace talks are not on the table...

........... sigh...

So basically Yashiro and Doumeki are two birds fighting for the same worm.

*And yes, I used a "bird" reference... ^See title and theme of this story to explain my cornyness...*

Say my name, say my same: lol...

Lastly, at the end of Chapter 40, page 29, Yashiro calls out Doumeki name.

*But according to Yashiro, he doesn't remember Doumeki due to the head injury/amnesia.

This is a mistake on Yashiro's part.

Doumeki and Nanahara might catch on to Yashiro's error.

Basically Yashiro forgot that he "forgot" about Doumeki.

In the heat of the moment, their reunion after ~4 years, Yashiro slipped up and blew his cover/composure." [My recap ends].

I know it is long, but I decided to put it in one comment thread.

Also, I used Yeesh's recap without their permission, hopefully they won’t mind, but I thought it was a great recap.

And their recap and my recap touched on the same topics, but didn't overlap.

P.S. screw grammar, I don't care about grammar errors...!
