Girl, I’ve read the novel this is based on. The ML was in love with his friend for 18 years, while the MC had unrequited feelings for the ML for 10 years. It’s true that the ML doesn’t recognize the MC’s feelings at first and is completely focused on that friend. There’s also another friend who’s engaged, both of them are kind of rivals for that same person.
As the story progresses, the ML and MC develop a genuine friendship, with no romantic feelings involved initially. There was a point where they almost tried sleeping together, but it was more out of the ML feeling like he owed the MC something after knowing about his long-time unrequited love. It didn’t go well, they ended up clashing, and the ML apologized because he didn’t want to lose MC as a good friend.
From there, their bond grows stronger. The ML comes to see the MC as a really good person, and the MC continues to support the ML in his feelings for the other bottom for a long time. Eventually, the ML gives up on that love, and later even helps the MC find a partner.
The novel really develops their relationship naturally, it’s not forced at all. It’s a proper slow burn.
This is an extract from the novel.
ML’s POV:
I shook my head with a bitter smile and stepped into the main house. Without even needing to look back, I could see him (MC) sitting alone on the wooden floor of the main house.
I hesitated, about to call his name with a smile. Perhaps he had taken a nap; his head was resting quietly against a pillar, and his eyes were closed.
Bathed in the dazzling golden sunlight streaming down upon him, he looked as if he might melt right there.
In the blinding light.
He was Sparkling.
“.….”
I couldn’t move a muscle. I stood frozen in place, as if nailed to the spot, staring at him without even blinking.
He opened his eyes. Perhaps because of the sound of birds, he looked up at the sky—even though there was no way he could see the birds chirping beyond the roof—and smiled quietly. His face, still holding that smile, suddenly turned its gaze toward me.
Our eyes met.
In that instant, my heart skipped a beat.
I had no idea what expression I had on my face. Somehow, it felt as though I must look terribly strange. I prayed fervently, for no reason at all, that it wasn’t a pitiful or disappointing expression.
