How do ppl who read Doujinshi genuinely read this and not feel awkward when reading/watching the actual show?.!?..??

i came across a doujinshi of diamond no ace and i had no idea what the actual show was about.... well, when i finally starting watching it all i could think about was that doujin lmaooo
most doujin are usually pretty ooc so it all just feels like a giant hc everytime I read a doujin so I never really correlate it to the story of the actual show if that makes sense idk
