It was during a parade for the gods...hua cheng was a kid xie lang of course was the greatest god....so in the middle of wanting to see from the top of a wall...sang lan fell...and xie lan jumped on instinct and caught him.... saving the little sang lang from death....obstructing the parade......well as for falling for him....he was a prince, good looking, ascended to be a god, saved a poor child not once .... another time qi Rong tried to kill him...xie lan saved him again.....sang lan became xie lan's most devout believer even after fall of Xianle....he actually became a ghost king because of the suffering xie lan went through and he could only just sit there and watch...do nothing because he was powerless....that was his rage or whatever that made him into a supreme

Basically 800 years ago, when xie lian was still a mortal, he saved hua cheng from dying. Huacheng was severely bullied and had no family that we know of, he also was extremely insecure because of the bullying and became kinda suicidal. After xielian ascended, hua cheng devoted his life to him because of the time he saved his life. Xielian also said hua cheng to live on for him if he has no reason to live. San lang dosent only like him, he is devoted to him, he is xia lian's most devoted follower. Sorry if this is confusing.
