i can't even call it a story bc everything is so realistically depicted. shitty old man was never punished, shiino returns to her normal life eventually, there's no backstory or anything on that guy (which there are usually in some stories), the feeling of unfairness with the other party who died without turning to you first etc.
finally, mariko has never gotten the help she needed. it's also cruel how there is no narrating from mariko's point of view. we never knew what she was thinking of when she decided to jump (just like in real life). also when mariko said she broke up with ground beetle guy cuz he was too nice ☹ I instantly thought of that one quote from litc "how would u what love is when you've never been loved"
