I think it's more along the lines of the longing or desperation in pride and prejudice not whatever else is going on. Yes, laura is very prideful and wants to do things on her own. Someone that independent who's been doing things alone for so long finds it hard to rely on another.
See. Tht doesn't come across at all. Her independence is on the account of her grandma is bedridden otherwise her grandma would be holding the household upto it's title. As for her financial independence there was none. She didn't even charge for the years of matchmaking N thn long forgotten. N her days on the streets weren't even tht long the very next day she is again living at a representable house being treated like a lady.
