I get that the family values Ria, but I feel like they're holding her back from opportunities.

They gloss over the fact that she's working as a maid taking care of their demanding child (which is a lot of work for a young girl to do). Alternatively if she took one of the opportunities offered by another family she'd be able to travel, learn more magic, etc.

They always talk like she's part of the family, but they never actually adopted her, so she's not really part of the family. She's actually just an employee.

Wow what a beautifully written story about love, redemption, and forgiveness. The characters all go through such growth, and at times you will hate them, at others you'll love them. It's the kind of story about the human condition that makes you want to be a better person. 10/10 even with all the angst I'd read it again haha
