They were in the tower that maintained a barrier that sealed away main antagonist, 'Beusbrichel'(extremely massive Eldritch entity, think of entity like Nyarlathothep) that had destroyed countless worlds. This game world is the last line of defense before 'Beusbrichel' broke free and will possibly consume Earth once freed. So they are trying their hardest to clear the tower because it is the source of energy that power-up the barrier.
Clearing more floors in the tower(100F) --> stronger barrier.

MC is always on the verge of death and ML is literally like “yeah smash” can we be so for real!? It just gives me such an ick for both of them especially since there was no prep at all, realistically he would have been torn and bleeding a river… and why in tf is slan always more mad and shows more assertive anger FOR ML than he does for himself?? I’ve made it this far but this was not the reunion I was expecting and I’m so tempted to drop kick this into the trash… so close
