I dont quite get why this has to be cancelled? I get that the story is supposed to be based around the time period where slavery existed tho it technically still exits today but anyway is it the portrayal of more “humane” treatment of the slaves that people dont like? Like it feels like it’s erasing history by downplaying the cruelty of slavery back then?
I thought there’s a lot of historical manhwas that are kinda based on history but they aren’t that accurate, or rather they aren’t meant to be representative of historical events anyway, so isnt it fine if they aren’t exactly the same??
Also didnt get that comment abt the ml’s self introduction in the end being not it like, he was clearly just being sarcastic, i dont see the problem with that
I just feel like it’s too early to judge the work, it literally just has only one ch, what can u judge? And u cant know for sure what the author had planned and if the story is truly problematic. Although now it doesn’t rlly matter since the work’s cancelled, i just feel like it’s a pity that the manhwa got cancelled so suddenly and quickly.
Also i guess as someone who read fics on ao3, i have seen stories with themes of slavery, i didn’t personally read them, but if a story with such heavy themes is well written and handles these issues well, isnt that a story that deserves to be told? Like i said i feel like it’s too early to judge
Copy pasting a reply "No one “forced” anything here that’s the thing you’re ignoring. The author chose the setting and framing herself, and after seeing the criticism, she also chose to step back because she didn’t feel she could handle the material with enough sensitivity. That’s not “cancellation,” that’s an author making a decision about their own work and capacity to do it justice. The idea that authors “shouldn’t have to cancel series because of criticism” doesn’t match reality anyway. Plenty of problematic or tone-deaf BLs do keep going despite backlash, because the author chooses to continue and the publisher allows it. So clearly, criticism doesn’t automatically stop anything it just exists as part of the feedback loop. At the end of the day, publishing a story isn’t a one-way entitlement where you put something out and get immunity from response. You can’t demand an audience and then insist that audience has no right to question how sensitive or harmful the framing is."
sorry but no shot this was gonna be a well written story with heavy themes if the author themselves claimed that they didn’t research enough. also is he really being sarcastic if he’s of mixed native heritage and he has blue eyes? it’s most likely that he was a child born from rape, a white master and an indigenous women who was a slave, making him a slave
Not to mention it's a freaking BL not some piece of Great literature which might shape the generational beliefs. People could just ignore if the plot didn't sit well with them. Also, people yapping about "author own decision not forced" are you guys fr? She WAS forced to take it down lol. It's a typical strategy is entertainment industry.
I mean now i do agree that it should not be continued especially since the author didn’t research enough either, also like i saw a comment saying how the slave x master setting in this manhwa is similar to a Japanese x Japanese occupied citizen so yeah it helped put into perspective for me how severe and ridiculous this setting is
It’s just that im still kinda confused becuz i thought people were mad because it’s slave x master which i think is hypocritical because there’s plenty of other manhwas and mangas or whatever out there with this trope and people still like reading them so i just feel like damn why didn’t i see this hate energy towards these other manhwas, or better yet towards manhwas like code name anasthasia that romanticise and normalise rape and sexual torture, like these manhwas are also deeply problematic but i dont see them getting cancelled but anyway
going back to the slave x master trope, are people like fine with it as long as it’s not completely based on historical contexts like the setting is fictional but there is still an element of slavery and this slavery could be referenced on historical contexts but as long as the setting isn’t historical its fine?? Like im just confused because cancelling this manhwa for its historical setting is very reasonable, but hating it for the slave x master trope is kinda hypocritical when there are other stories with this trope that people liked, tho they were probably actually well written so they can be considered gd stories, which is also kinda why i think this trope is still kinda acceptable as long as the story is well written and the slavery setting is properly addressed, tho i might also be wrong maybe it wasnt slave x master but one of the characters was still a slave so idk if this is considered slave x master
Nah nah how can you feel bad for someone who was tricked you, assaulted you, tied you up, groped you, was about to cut a fcking hole in you and fck said hole to rape you, planned a gang rape too mind you, someone who did all of this to someone else and u fcking know this too, yet even after all that, u still feel bad for him??? Rapists like that whole group deserves torture and worse, like u went through such a traumatic experience urself and u still feel bad nah i can never understand how anyone can feel bad for a rapist
GIRL EXACTLY like dont get me wrong i lobe our mc but i wanted to slap him so bad in that moment like WAKE UP BITCH THIS HAPPENED TO YOUR SISTER AND UR FEELING BAD FOR THAT RAPIST
