Someone please explain to me what happened in ch 9 and 10 in dumb dumb terms because I don't understand
to put it simply: she threw the wooden shield at him knowing he would use water barrier, the broken pieces of the wooden shield get “stuck” in the water barrier. if the prince gets rid of the water barrier the wooden pieces will hit him so he can’t cancel the barrier. however the barrier uses up mana really fast so Sophia just has to wait until he runs out of energy to win. the cocky dumb prince gets angry and cancels the barrier to attack her but obviously he loses. sore loser that he is, he drinks a mana potion and suddenly tells her to use a different type of magic or it doesn’t count as her win. he gets cocky again and casts multiple spells at her thinking he’ll win, but Sophia (as the original creator of the water barrier magic) reminds him that spells of the same type cancel each other out. the blast knocks him back i guess. Sophia wins the duel since the prince doesn’t get back up
I'm sure this depicts the reality of how difficult it is to truly leave someone toxic. I think I find this manga unsettling because of how real it feels as opposed to standard the "they're toxic but I'm going to throw myself at them anyway because they're insanely hot, great in bed, and I'm such a silly person" kind of thing. I wanted her to stay away because he's scum and at the same time from this manga I can see and understand that trauma bonds are so complicated. While I don't usually leave comments like this one, I felt compelled to share because not only is the art expressive, but it's also a new-at least to me- perspective on the seriousness and portrayal of this kind of "love".

Just waiting for the "Wow she's so pretty and they're speaking English together so she must be a better match for him than me" arc. (But I'm secretly hoping that after this kerfuffle they're more confident and trusting in each other and the English-speaking girlie ends up being super wholesome and also maybe let's find love for Ryu-kun pls ;_;)
