It checks all the boxes in the beginning (great premise, gorgeous art, non-toxic male lead but that’s the bare minimum tbh), but damn if the plot isn’t shallow as hell the more you read on, and I finished the whole thing.
We don’t even know the pope’s motivations, the WHY behind him wanting to be a god—we barely got to know the guy before his storyline came to its conclusion and he gets killed off screen. Honestly, Sheria and Duke Hessman were much more compelling villains to a point, and the plot kind of dragged after they were dealt with.
Not to mention, there wasn’t really any tension. Any time a conflict appears the FL or her allies deals with it swiftly with some deus ex machina or the other, almost to the point where it feels like there weren’t any stakes because any issue that pops up is just easily overcome. Whatever solution they come up with isn’t exactly given a lot of forethought either, usually something only introduced 1-2 chapters earlier (a recording spell on the origami?? since WHEN). It makes Isaac’s magic feel like a universal solution that has no limitations, and can be used to deal with virtually anything.
And oh boy, Isaac. He’s kind, reliable, and respectful of the FL’s boundaries, but most of the time it just feels like he’s there to be the FL’s arm candy (or solution dispenser) with barely no personality. Which, ig could be fine, this is the FL’s story after all, but she doesn’t even do him the courtesy of telling him her secret (that she’s from another world!). Their chemistry doesn’t feel believable besides him rizzing her and her getting swept along by it. It almost felt like you could slot literally any other one of the love interests (the prince in particular) and have him do all the same kindnesses for her, and she’d fall for him all the same. WHAT makes Isaac compelling for her besides a base level of attraction? Frankly, Dominic had more potential with her, and the author had to cut that avenue short by boxing him into a brotherly role.
Lastly, that poor dragon child. Being only good as a one-time solution to defeat the pope and barely addressed as part of her family at the end. If i could summarize my critique, this story sets up so many things but barely explores any of them beyond a surface level by the end. It genuinely felt like I just wasted my time.
I agree, we don't even get to know why the original leads suddenly become villains, the origin of the curse/blessing of her family, why she transmigrated to that world, the reason the other princes died, a lot of things are cut short. At the start she just wanted to open a shop and live a happy life helping children but the world she is in is not that hard, I mean no poverty, everything is perfect, only the FL seems to have been in a difficult situation and not even that difficult if we look at all the other novels where the FLs are really being mistreated.
All that said I can't say it is totally bad because I liked the art and the chill feeling I got while reading it.(▰˘◡˘▰)
i meant to like it i agree. i wanted them to dote more on the dragon child. but he was sidelined so badly
Yeah it was like: we love you, you are our child, but you have to make us some favors and then the plot will forget about you.
