I knew from the beginning that Taichi would be endgame, there’s clues all over the manga (and whoever did not catch them has to reread the whole thing! There’s clues literally from day one!) but I was left wanting to see them at least hug! A REAL kiss! That thing that Taichi did when Chihaya ran after him was not a proper kiss… I don’t know. I feel gipped. Like I was promised candy and got a vitamin instead? Though I did love Arata’s reaction when they told him! So funny! “Now you’ll know what it feels like to see her just once in a wile!” Gold!
I so so so love Taichi but hate that he ended up with Chihaya. He was better off without her. He plays better without her and he carry himself better without her.
He just ended up with Chihaya probably so that he won't be left out of the trio.
Arata becoming the Meijin and also becoming Chihaya's end game would make Taichi too much of an afterthought.
That must be why the author chooses Taichi as the end game when most chapters it was Arata-Arata in her head.
That's also kinda unfair to Arata and now Taichi is going far away. I wonder if their relationship will lasts.
you are right, Taichi's character is way better without Chihaya, and the confession he got is just meh, I think he deserved better. Also I heard that Suetsugu said that Chihaya never really loved him romantically, not even when she confessed. but the sequel might probably do something about it, in short, he really deserved better.
I actually thought it was going to be the other way where Taichi gets the Meijin and Arata and Chihaya end up together. It would have been a great twist to have Arata who always ran after the title bc it was kind of his thing from the beginning and everyone expected him to be. Meanwhile Taichi was kind of half-hearted and then chose to work on it and forget Chihaya. It would have shown character growth atleast. Bc I absolutely loved that portion of Taichi's growth after Taichi confessed and Chihaya didn't reciprocate. I feel both Taichi and Chihaya got some room to grow as character after that failed confession bc Taichi chose to get serious and Chihaya learnt she got into a comfort zone with Taichi and friendzoning him but when he wasn't really there, she truly missed him. Arata however keeps getting sidelined bc he isn't with Chihaya the MC most of the time and we have to wait to get his pov time and again. Initially around the time of Taichi's confession, I found the story to be very unfair to Taichi but overall I feel it is a bit unfair to Arata if the trio is meant to be center stage until the end.
So I came to reread a couple chs (initially came to reread the mizusawa vs fujioka high where Chihaya won against Arata but then also reread the last few chs). Ngl I was soooo happy Chihaya chose Taichi.
I've read this manga from a longggg ago. Before season 3 was even released (but probably after season 2). I started with the manga, and with how it was initially, it definitely looked like Arata was endgame so I cheered from him. However, as I continued reading I couldn't help but feel bad for Taichi, and it worsened after I watched the anime along with reading the manga. To the point, that even though it seemed as though Arata would be endgame, I still cheered for Taichi. Heck when I initially read this, there was someone who even said that Arata would be end game and he knows japanese blah blah blah (this was long ago so obviously that guy made it up.) I stopped for a while in the Queens and Kings match near the end, waiting for it to end but couldn't bear to read it because I feared 1. Chihaya would choose Arata and 2. Chihaya would lose against Shinobu.
But I'm glad I gathered the courage to continue reading once it was completed and you have no idea how happy I was. Especially when Chihaya confessed to Taichi and they became a couple. The two are legit the perfect couple in my eyes

Am I the only one
who knew Mashima and Chihaya would be the end game ╥﹏╥
Must the author really separate them after, tho it may be needed for their relationship since they were always together since

Throughout the manga there were so many cute scenes of Arata and Chihaya, god I felt like I was led on bruh. Thought the ending came out of left field
Pls Sumire is so amazing!!
Still not a fan of the end ship tho. I’m a huge fan of Arata’s confession scene. I think it was done beautifully and then it went to waste.
Samee!! Arata fan too! He was always there to support, encourage. and cheer up Chihaya.(๑•ㅂ•)و✧
I'M SO PROUD OF SUMIRE (/TДT)/

Noo but there's hints of ayase feeling about taichi from the beginning
But it was brushed off easily
