I’ll definitely give this manga credit for its progressive approach in switching up the seme/uke roles back in 2007. (short tops were hardly a thing in BLs back then. extremely rare) But that’s its only point of interest. It’s extremely dated in every other aspect
Am I the only one that fucking hated the black hair character. He was just a perfect dick throughout the entire story. As someone who has done lots of theatre I’ve met people like him and I can tell you it doesn’t matter how pretty they are all you wanna do is knock them out. Nothing strangely alluring or love blossoming just plain hatred. I also hate stories where the characters whole arc is just coming to terms with the fact that the character that they think (and actually is) an asshole is actually a perfect angel that didn’t do anything wrong.
Agree. Kinda hate stories like this. Where the MC is treated like a fool while everyone else seems to have a “mental upper hand” of some sort. Dude didn’t even really deserve it. Condescension will never conflate to maturity to me, idk. Black hair’s kind of confidence isn’t likable
The story had lots of holes and was kind of confusing. I didn't like Sawaki or Ootaki - Sawa starts out really nice then does this 180 and is horrible to Yuki (I get that he's trying to make him better through friendly competition, but that wasn't 'friendly' at all, and he was always cryptic. Ootaki started out as a decent character, he seemed to care about Yuki and they've been casually seeing each other for a few years, but all of the sudden he says he's only with Yuki because Yuki needs someone to hold his hand?! If I were Yuki, I'd tell them both to screw off, all they managed to do was make him question himself so badly, then all of the sudden everything's fine between all of them?
but this story was just rubbish. i kind of know what the author wanted to do (competing with the one you love to show them your worth and make them better while fighting you) but it lacked so so much in the development of their relationship that it all turned into a boring and not very engrossing story. there was no peak, no thrill and the end was like "hey, you know what? you two are perfect for each other!" why? where? because of their competition??? because they don't understand each other? that's not a reason to suddenly become a couple (would be a very poor reason). no, story-wise this was rubbish. and the only visual interesting charakter was ootaki san.
