Reread this again after so many years and it’s still so good. And i’ve been thinking, yui deserved a separate story other than being ‘suzaku no miko’s rival’. She could also have made an amazing miko… just sayin
I first picked up the original series in the early 2000s and couldn't stand either Miaka or Yui characters. Their storylines were really selfcentered too. I'm so glad I gave Genbu Kaiden a read. Truly respect Takiko.
Grew up watching fushigi yuugi, found Miaka and Tamahome insufferable. However Genbu Kaiden is amazing with both Takiko and Uruki being amazing leads with great chemistry.Their relationship was so romantic and sweet and was a joy to read. The ending is so tragic though ugh with her dad and everything . I want a story of them reincarnated in modern japan or something because they are by far the best characters in the fushigi yuugi universe.

Read all 18 volumes of Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play.
Then, go onto Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden, which is still ongoing.
Genbu Kaiden, though, does not concern the priestess of Suzaku. It is a completely different story arc from the first Fushigi Yuugi. I've found that Ganbu Kaiden was more mature than the first FY, and the art style changed quite a bit.
You don't really have to read them in that order, since it is not a continuing story, but Genbu Kaiden is newer...so you are basically reading in order of production date....Which is also the order that Yuu Watase intended!

that's what I have read about it. there is also an anime for it! the Byakko one is still in the works as we speak and genbu has been finished. hope this helps!

Now I won't wonder anymore what's the story of Genbu that kept mentioning in Suzaku and Seiryuu series.. I understand all of it.. now now self, don't be sad and let's be happy for this couple and wish them all the best with all their celestial warriors♡
For me this is the best series of Fushigi Yuugi. How I wish this was animated. Tbh, this story is far way better than fushigi yuugi : miaka's story. I just love how uruki and takiko loved each other so much. To the point that uruki never remarried after takiko died. The rarest species of man. And also, takiko possess such a great and strong female lead traits.
Im a fan of fushigi yuugi series and all i can say that takiko was the strongest priestess among the 4. She is fighting, emotionally, physically and mentally for the sake of other people. I just love this manga so much it was my childhood :') the ending always makes me cry, their love to eachother is infinite and unconditonally
IM CRYING IN LAST CHAPTER SO MUCH! CAN'T BELIEVE LASTLY TOMITE AND HITSUKI LEFT US T.T I THOUGHT SOEREN THE ONLY ONE MAKE ME CRY LIKE THIS BUT THEY BOTH AT LAST MAKE MY HEART CRYING SO MUCH. OH RIGHT HAAGATSU ALSO T.T
It is such a moving and beautiful story ! I will always remember this one. Sad and beautiful at the same time. I admire how faithful Uruki was to the priestess, who sadly passed away in his arms... But at last, they get to meet again in the afterlife, and don't have to be parted again because of their job as a warrior and priestess. Now they can freely love each others
I really hate stories with a tragic end. It really annoys me whenever the lead character has to die. But I cannot get annoyed with Takiko's end. Yes, she may have died in exchange of everyone's happiness. But she also got her own happiness even in the afterlife when Rimudo finally meet her again, and that was because of everyone's wish and prayer that may their hero, the priestess, be happy again.
P.S. The reason why I hate tragic stories was because THEY ALWAYS MAKES ME CRY. P.P.S. I am still crying while typing this comment of mine.

OH MY GOOOOD THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I READ THIS AND I AM IN TEARS AGAIN.
