As much as yaoi mangas romanticize rape, it is never okay. I didn't have an opinion on this topic before, but after reading these mangas for a while, you realize how sickening it is when someone does something to you that isn't consensual.
You saw how that one character (second to last story, I believe) was traumatized by it. Even if it's fiction, rape is absolutely horrible and disgusting, and you should never think of it as something that is okay.
heh, but i think that rape part helped him realized things* am not saying its good to be raped but in that story welll...wahahahahah~ dunno, forgive the lowly me if i ever made you mad

I agree that non-consensual sex is abhorrent and violence is despicable. In the case of the "rape" in this story (the delinquent who was raped by several classmates) there is a significant difference from the standard "yaoi rape". The act in this case was borne out of a desire to injure and humiliate the victim into submission. In other, more common cases of "yaoi rape" the act is borne out of a desire to love and embrace the "victim". Now, I realize, in real life laws and social mores do not distinguish between these two scenarios and all non-consensual sex is rape. However, within this fictional setting and in this genre in particular, the differences are immense. The former act is unforgivable and deserves retribution and punishment. Whereas, the latter is understood to be an act of love and passionate desire, leading to the much-sought-after "happily ever after". Whether or not this concept is acceptable in the views of Western cultures is irrelevant. It is a popular concept for "fetish content" among native readers and authors of this genre. Therefore, your statement "Even if it's fiction, rape is absolutely horrible and disgusting, and you should never think of it as something that is okay.", does not hold up to scrutiny. As an opinion, your statement is valid. As a declaration of fact, your statement is invalid.

^^^I'm having trouble with the high-leveled vocabulary in the comment, but I suppose I agree with "the former act is unforgivable and deserves retribution and punishment. Whereas the latter is understood as an act of love and passionate desire." And my statement was certainly my opinion based on my morals in life, but the op's first comment was invalid imo (their second comment made me feel like the protag didn't deserve what he got? But thats how the story went, I guess.) In addition, I've recently realize that though some bad things are in fiction does not mean the people approve of it in real life.
-Also as an opinion, i really do not like the guys who did that to the protagonist. ಠ_ಠ

Yes...you are right. As long as people have the critical consciousness of the lines between fantasy and reality, no matter how triggering the material is, it's alright. Fantasies, including rape, are made because it doesn't happen in reality, and we won't want it to happen in reality. It is completely human to enjoy it.
Furthermore, rape is prevalent and tolerated in yaoi because we know male rape does not have any bearing in real life.

Sorry about the vocab. Too much time spent reading a dictionary as a kid. I was a sad and lonely child...I know. LOL I can see where your opinions about the original comment come from. I know Nigh and his sense of humor, so I knew he was joking. You wouldn't have known that, so of course it triggered a different response from you. Precisely, we see bizarre and repulsive things in fiction all the time, letting it get to us as a model of real life distorts our sense of reality. We have to keep what we see or read separated from what is going on in real life. I didn't like the antagonists actions either. As a rape survivor myself, depictions of "that kind" of rape turn my stomach.

Men CAN AND DO get raped. Female vs. male rape is less common and usually can be overcome by males due simply to their size and strength. Usually there is some type of drug or intoxicant involved. However, male vs. male rape is more difficult to overcome as a victim. Particularly if the victim is outnumbered or overpowered. This was the case for my brother when he was in high school. It was never reported and it took him years before he could even talk about it. I've read at least 4 yaoi where a mother, or some other female, forces intercourse with her onto a male. As a nurse, I know this situation is harder to bring about than it seems. A male that is scared, in pain or repulsed won't get an erection no matter what you do. The idea portrayed in manga is that a guy will "get it up" at the drop of a hat, this is false. Don't get me wrong, there are some guys that can, but they are few and far between.

I'm sorry. I think I said something insensitive there about male rape. I also did not know much about it. But what I do know is that it's definitely less of a social issue.
Although there are a lot of porn and hentai material out there depicting female rape, in terms of more mainstream material such as Ecchi, it's definitely more frowned upon by it's male readers more than women who frown upon rape in yaoi. And this is primarily because female rape is a big social issue.
I also don't like the kind of rape portrayed here either.

No apology necessary. Although "male" rape happens, you're right, it has never become a big social issue. In gay circles you actually hear about it more often than in mainstream. This is due to gays being targeted by homophobes who think that because a guy is gay, "he'll accept any dick in his ass"...not my words. It kinda pisses me off. I have many gay, lesbian and transgender friends. Men are also less likely to report rape because they fear being considered gay, being "outed", or don't want to face the shame of it. Not that they have anything to be ashamed of, I just mean the fact that they were overpowered and "taken" from a male POV. You're right, men don't like to see other men in that predicament, it hits too close to home. I think, at least in the manga culture, women see "yaoi rape" as more of a depiction of "the brute force" of guys being guys. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, I don't know. I've read 1000+ yaoi and have only seen "this type" of rape 4 times (I think), thank goddess. I've only been through about 1/5th of the yaoi on this site, so we'll see how it goes. LOL
Nigh has a sense of humor that people either get, or they don't. You didn't get it. It's okay though. You're not alone. There are tons of people who have sticks up their ass and they live healthy and productive lives. I'm confident you can too, I have faith in you.
