ughhh they just dont make manga like they used to. 90s-2000s authors like Morimoto Shuu and Sugiura Shiho are national treasures. i need them to come back and whip the mangakas of today into shape
but in G-defend, there are more of these characters after this story ends. Like the where are they now kind of thing. It was like a side story in which one of the main characters of G-defend was transported into the this world and met these characters. Just letting people know if they wanted more.
I mean the romance thing was strongly implied but yeah I agree sometimes its best to not have it shown as it can ruin the flow of the story.(〜￣△￣)〜(๑•ㅂ•)و✧
There's something that's bothering me no matter how many times I read this manga. In the end, when xianling overused his power and he's hurt his arm, hulei point this out to long. Same with nasha and her leg. Does that mean they can't use arm and leg anymore? I saw that xianling never moved his right arm in the epilogue so...
Wounds/broken bones are healed through exchanging power, so it's obvious to me that they exchanged power with someone else or between themselves (when they healed a bit and gathered energy).
From what I understood in that part was when Lifang recalled his memories and powers it also flowed back to his friends and healed them same with the people with the critical condition to show signs of healing.
so I've read g-defend by the same mangaka and I liked it a lot. I started to read this one, and there's no sign of shounen ai in a whole first volume, so I have to ask. is this "shounen ai" shounen ai, or "we're tenderly look at each other, touch each other more than necessary and walk around each other half-naked, but that's it" shounen ai?
Yep. The only actual couples are heterosexual. Well, if you squint really-really hard, you might see smth between emperor and his aide. But it was mostly my wishful thinking, wich is a shame, emperor dude's hot as hell. If you're here for BL romantic stuff, don't waste your time. Ninety per cent of this manga is fighting. And since fantasy world not developed quite well, it's actually gets pretty boring, if you're not into this kind of thing. In G-Defend it balaced out by all the romantic stuff and humor at least.
Other than what the person above has already said about the Emperor and Fengyu, there was a shounen-ai scene (a side story of the same verse) where Long teaches Lifang the wrong way to show respect so Lifang kisses Touren in front of everyone. I believe it was an extra chapter. So yeah, there are hints but nothing stated outright, just like in the Asterisk manga too.
Thanks to someone else posting it before. It's at the end of Chapter 28. Also, Chapter 29 features Hulei proclaiming that Xiangling is his before shyly switching his words to the latter's powers being his. Again, just hints I suppose.
I went through 3vol before dropping, I was really disappointed. It has no ounce of romance, just fantasy fighting. There is no shounen ai at all. @Katty
The term "shounen ai" refers to strong male relationships so the genre alone isn't indicative of romance. So this is still shounen ai.
I think everything is subtext Even years later neither of them show interest in women and there was a subtle hint when the emperor said that he didn't care who Touren ended up with
I just finish this manga. And yeah, 90% is about fighting and 10% about deep bound between the pairing (touren x lifan, hulei x xiangling, ect) and i think the reason this manga have 'shonen ai' tag because deep bound i said before, not because romantic feeling like other shonen ai manga #sorry bad english (=・ω・=)

This mangaka all her works is my master pieces of shounen ai I'm just rereading it all like from time to time agine but I wish they could continue G-defend and be there newer manga for her too
Tuoren is great but it's implied that deputy emperors have a specialized choosing process where they are predestined and not indicative of personality, status, etc... So he already had his role. Besides, the emperor stays in his chambers most of the time. Tuoren couldn't do that as he's a wandering spirit.
It would be more likely to have LiFang as the next deputy emperor since he himself was an emperor but looking at their personalities I don’t think they would sit in one place for too long.

As much as I wanted romance in it , I think it's good it didn't have any cus it would have spoiled the entire flow and character pace .

in the epilogue hulie told xianling that he is an excellent spellcaster even with one hand so i think he can't use his hand again
