I watched this manga several years ago when I was younger, and I really enjoyed the story. However, it really pisses me off when we have inappropriate ages of characters. The plot at least in the anime cause I haven’t read this yet was so good, however, when you make one character, a legit child, and then the other character an adult for me it just takes away from the story. They really could’ve made the main character, a high schooler, and that would’ve been a lot more appropriate since the seme is 21. Like I could do a story where it’s 17 and 21 and it wouldn’t have been an issue, but 12 and 21 is wild! I literally came here because I wanted to actually confirm how old the ages are so I could justify reading this because the plot was actually so interesting. But I don’t think I can to be quite honest like why did the authors have to do this? It’s not like him being 12 versus him being 17 is gonna change the plot at all so it really just grinds my gears when the story becomes inappropriate when it didn’t need to be.
I couldn’t agree more honestly. I just have to imagine their ages to be more appropriate when the plot is interesting, but on this manga the gap is too large…
This was my fav manga as a 14/15 year old and it still is one of my fav's. To all the ppl who say it's pedo: show me one pannel where there's anything going on between them. get your mind out of the gutter and enjoy the beauty and the pain of this masterpiece
i think i was around 13-14 when i first started reading this. what first drew me to it was the world building: the idea of wordplay being the source of one's power was and is so compelling to me, and i've never found any other series with a mechanic like that (i later majored in english and now work in publishing so it all checks out, really). back then, soubi also seemed like An Adult, being in his 20s... but now, when i read through this i just feel pity for everyone being so young and so traumatized. i do think the expectations and dependency that soubi brings into his relationship with ritsuka is completely inappropriate. it is basically grooming. but i still don't want to call it predatory per se, bc soubi has... good intentions? but is just so traumatized himself that he just passes that on in a cycle of abuse. fwiw i think the series is very sober about how inappropriate their relationship is and it seems clear to me that it's just one of many fucked up things in this very twisted universe of the story. like it's purposefully dark and complex. this series would NEVER fly in this day and age, but i'm still oddly glad it exists.

I think the affection he showed to him (which is inap. fr!) is because of his trauma with Minami. Soubi acts towards Ritsuka like he wished Minami would've treated him. I think even Nisei is a tragic character xD
At the end I'm just sad that the story never got beyond the point that they are reunited. On the other hand, this way the story will stay in my mind forever <3
I read it in three days. It's really good and very sad in my opinion. Unfortunatelly it's not finished so the saddest thing is that Soubi will never come back to Ritsuka. That fact makes me want to cry. Also I know that vol 13 came out in 2017 so I wonder will it ever appear here? I believe last chapters here are from 2016 so it can't be that, right? That this mean Soubi might have came back?
