I’m usually fine with old manga and it’s very questionable tropes. Half of the time it’s simply an interesting trip into another era to see how far we’ve come. But this work is so unbelievably tone deaf and void of any real human interaction to the point I had to stop reading just to save me from rolling my eyes too much. The ML is a textbook manipulator and rapist, who even turns the MC’s entire workplace against him, but he is never treated as such and is seemingly exempt from all judgment because all he is doing is for the sake of “destiny” and “fate.” It is unfortunate, but this work is not even interesting, it is simply unpleasant.

I'm of Malaysian-Chinese and Taiwanese descent and as a child, I had a habit of talking to air or opening doors for imaginary friends. I threw tantrums in unfamiliar spaces and would try to run away in the middle of the night. My family's solution to my eccentricities was going to our Buddhist master and praying for an amulet of the Four Faced Buddha, a god of protection. I've been wearing the amulet since I was a toddler and in my teenage years, she placed a White Umbrella mantra talisman in my wallet. Both of these things I still wear and carry around with me as a grown adult.
