All I thought the whole time was: Goodness, they’re so young to experience that intensity. And when Kou was just fking around with girls to avoid his true feels… it all just felt like he’s too young for that. I thought 14/15 would be a better age to start the story instead of 12.

I understand how Natsume feels too because that intensity and knowing that you’ll never feel this way about anyone ever again. Kou and Natsume really loved each other. They shaped each other.

I’m so proud of Kanna. She’s so brave. She truly loved both Kou and Natsume.

The stalker shit and how Kanna got SAed too is so terrible. I’m so glad he died.

And THEY GOT MARRIED 40 YEARS LATER when she already has a 16 year old son w him. YASSSSS

Wow I despised this with a burning passion, why are manga artists allergic to being normal? It would’ve been a much more beautiful ending if she overcame him WITH otome and didn’t go the typical route of always ending up with the first guy.. what he did was literal rape yo. I wish she had just become a stronger woman and found a good ending with otome , this is sick chile

I’m kinda slow and I’m on chapter 32 I don’t really understand natsume and kous relationship at the moment could someone explain? Like is it a misunderstanding cause of what happened during the festival cause I know natsume keeps going on about how they’ve changed, so is kou avoiding her like his punishment towards her for saying he didn’t do anything to save her? And he’s only with these other girls be they remind him of natsume?

She had PTSD. Ppl keep telling her she’s been raped but she refuses to acknowledge something like that happened. To her, Kou was her God but when he couldn’t save her, her idealistic views of him was tarnished. In a twisted way, she is disappointed in him.

Kou, really wanted to save her. He was King of the land. But after the incident, his confidence shattered and he just can’t face her anymore. He blames his own weakness for her pain. Unable to deal with the way she is seeing the real him behind the carefree mask he wears.

the emotions were really compelling, if at sometimes frustrating. like the fear of passing your peak and being desperate for a better, passed time. also, in the beginning of their relationship, when he gets bored as she “lost” her fire and drive. in other manga where attraction was built off of competition or resistance, I always questioned how the spark remained after they got together, so I was satisfied (and anxious) seeing that touched on in this story.

also, while I get preferring ootomo, I felt that the clock started counting down the moment their relationship began. yes, he was sweet and they were able to bring some pedestrian sense of joy to each other, but throughout the story they reiterate that natsume is different from the others and that she and kou have that fiery connection. being with ootomo lifted her from her monotonous and lonely routine so that she could face her career again, but kou was the one in her heart the whole time.

I don't know how long these reviews can be but ill try my best to fit everything I have to say into this message. I first read this manga 2-3 years ago, it affected me a lot back then but because I have the memory of a goldfish I forgot a lot about it so I reread it today. The intense emotions this manga had made me feel came rushing back to me in an instant. I have many thoughts but I'll start with the significance of light. All the principle characters in this manga have their own form of light which radiates. To Natsume (and frankly anybody else who had ever encountered him), Kou had the fiery light of a god something so freighting but so beautiful that it's impossible to stay away from it. After being distanced from Kou, Natsume fell in love with Otama who had the brightness of the sun to her. His positivity and kindness was something she could never find in Kou and it radiated onto her. To Kou, Otama, and Natsume, Natsume's light was the one from camera flashes and silver screens, the same light which was her downfall. The other significance of light came from the fire festival where the 'incident' took place and left a permanent indent on the lives of Kou and Natsume. At the end of the manga when Natsume's attacker kills himself he also gets rid of the light of Kou who was once a god. Kou who shines so brightly in the fire festival in Natsume's eyes, like a 'god' was reflected in the mask the attacker wore when he lit himself on fire to kill himself. By killing himself he also kills the god inside Kou which probably had never existed at all. That's just one aspect though there's a lot more I could talk about (like the significance of the god's sea, the shack, the drowning, and kou's mom) but I think this is good enough for one comment alone.

This was really good, I read it all night and it was fine. I'm just mad she chose kou after all otomo had done for her, imo they should've been end game cause why tf was ntr suddenly added. Also I hate kou lol, he still seems like he has nooo feelings at all for MC (I already forgot her name) Also the nude photo thing, what the actual fuck?? Honestly only loved otomo in this. Seriously, he deserves better.
