I say this alot but I wish theyre were more manga about college kids. Like theyre all living independently, paying rent, and mori is sleeping with grown women it just makes more sense and makes the manga less gross
I think at the time this first came out, it was a popular concept in manga that teenagers were living on their own and taking care of themselves like they're adults. Honestly, though, stories like this would work much better if they were about college students rather than high school students.
here reading my ahss off bec of nostalgia and also bec i thought kyohei and sunako end up together.... nah this whole manga just a whole bunch of filler chapters
First off I loved that the three other boys (takenaga, ranmaru, and yuki) treated Sunako like a friend, They didnât really care how scary she was and just wanted her to be happy! (They aunt can learn a thing or two from them)
Towards the middle of the manga they were a bit more mean/rude to her which was kind of weird to me but in the end they continued to treat her kindly. (For the most part)
I used to think the ending was bad bc they didnât end up together BUT I WAS WRONG!! She seems to have accepted that sheâs in love with kyohei âonly you appear to be particularly dazzling in my eyesâ ONLY YOUUUUU!! and then kyouhei SMILEDDDDD kyohei who is usually grossed out by female emotions!! Also kyohei: to me heâs been in love with her since well around the middle of the manga, he used to protest to the other boys suspicions so much and. Then stopped! You can say he got tired of objecting, but I refuse! I genuinely think he did try a couple times to get her to fall for him and when she didnât he gave him âsee I told you guysâ But I do think Iâm a lot of scenarios he didnât HAVE to do what he did!
Final thoughts: I loved this manga so much! I do want to see them more/ together, but I like this ending as well. I do think the final chapter was a way of the author telling us they ended up together fs!
(P.s. I hope ten is doing well even now! I hope heâs still a happy little kitten to this day <3 I enjoyed the authors notes/ daily life :)
One of the things I admire about the manga is how the side female characters didnât hate/thought of Sunako as ugly. They saw her as a scary person but they thought she was cool and even later accepted that Kyouhei and Sunako were dating, as opposed to the anime âhow can that person be standing near our precious kyouheiâ⌠the manga made her more âscaryâ while the anime made her âuglyâ.
I truly love the anime and the manga, whether or not the jokes aged poorlyâŚ. These were jokes in that time! Get over it!! The people online are so sensitive!
i want so badly to finish this for the outfits and the art,,,, i never managed to in my first run reading it back in like,,, 2005,,,, but itâs not even the parts that didnât age well, itâs the fucking authorâs notes. girl shut up i am all about respecting the artists because they work so hard but jesus FUCKING christ sheâs rude and annoying. âwow i canât believe you thought that my boys who i modeled after band members were DIFFERENT band members! how dare you!â âi just hate ugly people! iâve never met an ugly person who is nice!â like even as a person who likes vkei and knows and has listened to half the bands sheâs talking about,,,, shut upppppppp iâm begging on my knees
I feel like this was the best way to end it IMO. although I did want to see them become a couple fr, I don't like it when it's an outcome of the others always "gaslighting" them into that situation. and tbh atp I can't imagine how they would act as a couple other than being the same kind of friends. well they could very well be friends! but sunako saying kyohei appears the most dazzling indicates she feels something for him. I hope there was some omake into their future though even if it's a bit ambiguous. very komatta toki ni wa hoshi ni kikke vibes
I know this manga is very very old so it contains very outdated humor (transphobia and homophobia especially) and exaggerated scenes (ex. the rapist or SA parts, I'm just glad these actions aren't actually tolerated and they face consequences. ex. sexual jokes especially that they're minors) but outside of those I still really hold this manga dear in my heart.
it's funny and I love the dynamic the boys have with Sunako. in today's standards, it would've received much backlash even with the premise itself cause in a lot of instances they're forcing Sunako to be something she's not and it's all taken very lightly. but I still really adore the moments where it actually gives strong real life messages like just being who you are and not caring about what others think despite it regressing back to the joke some pages later (it's just how it worked back then). the way all of their bond developed and how they're always there for each other is very special.
and despite there being extreme jokes here, I really appreciate how the main women here aren't portrayed as weak - even Noi and Tamao. and the fact that Sunako gets angry and acts when women and the people she holds dear gets threatened is wonderful
