After over a decade, I've finally come back and finished the manga. When I was much younger, I didn't like the "will thy, won't they" trope so much. But those first 2 volumes were very captivating, even after I got out of my vampire yaoi phase. I've kept it on the backburner long enough and after the Deluxe edition came out, I decided to take it all in over a couple weeks, once and for all.
I have so much swirling through my mind. First, I'll say: sometimes there was a lot of references and information to take in. Some chapters became so complicated and I remember that being another issue for me trying to get back into the story many times over the years). But then I got to the end of the Barry fight and into the Captive Rayflo arc and... I was blown away. I think I'm gonna be rereading this for the rest of my life. I really have to commend sensei for how much detail and effort was put into the mystery, sci-fi, relious background, and supernatural lore. That and the fact there were so many profound and moving moments I couldn't- wouldn't dare to binge this. There were reveals I had to let it sit with me overnight. Vassalord was one of the the most intriguing vampire BL- no vampire romances period I've read in a long time. I don't know how this didn't get more than an OVA? It had a good amount of action, thrill, and setups. And it wasn't very graphic. It was always escalating the sensuality of Charley's feedings and it was incredibly... hot! It was definitely more than just feeding from the get go. Maybe the gore would've been much at that time. Even though Rayfelle had well... let's be honest pedophilic inclinations, it was still kept "tasteful" and not graphic at all (thank God). Everything was done in good taste, I say. Especially the ending. I'm glad Charley wasn't like many tsunderes at that time and obstinate till the end. He was elated to call Rayflo his partner. It was very touching. I hope they'd still be doing well together. Learning more and more.
I think now was a good time to finish this amazing story because I've gained a deeper appreciation for BL manga and romance stories as I've read more and gotten older. The next step for me is to get ahold of more volumes and the drama CD (R.I.P. Keiji Fujiwara). I must show my appreciation for sensei, even if it's over a decade late.

i love it sm, tho i didnt expect to get blue balled this many times- but the will-they-wont-they makes it more satisfying when they actually do it. feels like its earned you know
but damn explaining the plot to my friend made me feel like all of us were high on drugs. thas wild
I can't believe I only read this now! I remember watching the OVA quite some time ago but not being particularly impressed (I don't know why? I don't really remember. Either my tastes have changed or the OVA didn't do it justice), so I never went out of my way to read the manga. This was really good though! Only thing I hated was how, while the rape from Barry was addressed as such (a yaoi addressing rape for what it is and depicting it as actually disgusting and traumatizing without romanticizing it in any way? And an old yaoi at that??? OMG give me more of this!!!), THE SA FROM RAYFELL WASN'T. Rayfell unlike Barry was always presented as a mostly positive character from the main cast apart from her cheating, but even the SA on Cherry was brushed off almost as comic relief at the end?? (Cherry couldn't really consent, he wanted to save his master and accepting her was the only way despite him clearly not wanting it) She's not much better than the antagonist, wtf... I wanted someone to at least beat her up
