I think I mainly have the same reasons as most of us. I'm a girl and it's more comfortable to read about love between boys since I can't imagine it happening to me at all. I have some straight OTPs and I really enjoy reading YA novels and fantasy books for example but yaoi was always different in a way for me. It's like reading yaoi is my safe plac...... reply
i'm a sex-repulsed asexual, so honestly speaking, i tend to hate the sex scenes in yaoi the most lol. i prefer shounen ai, but i read more yaoi just because it's easier to find good yaoi works with nice art.

I like reading about relationship dynamics and seeing how the characters develop. I read other genres too, but I find that the dynamics that I like tend to only happen in yaoi.
There also seem to be better characters.

I read yaoi because of the fact that most straight manga is full of unrelatable characters. A lot of what I've read are usually either quirky in a cute way, dumb but loveable, or just a plain Mary sue. There's not a lot of flaws or character development going on.
