I'm 23 yo and was not aware that some teenagers thought this way about being a fujioshi. As you said, it can be seen as a shameful thing that is better to be kept secret, that's why I understand why some teenagers draw a parallel between doing your coming out and reading yaoi. I have never seen the need for anyone who is a fujoshi to ever go and tell their parents, unless they wanted to purchase some BL books or something like that but not all BL books look like BL from the cover. All I have to say is same. I’m a queer dude living in the Bible Belt and it’s really annoying when people who are fujoshis or even just supporters of lgbt+ act like they go through the same shit we do. It’s honestly funny how they think it even comes close. I have yet to see one fujoshi get disowned, lose all their friends, etc.
