As much as I love listening to Korean music (whether it be pop, r&b, ballad, etc), I've never really got into idols and artists themselves cause their fans are very overwhelming. I'm a fan myself, though if I say they're not overrated, you will say I'm being biased. If I say so myself, I think there are another groups that more overated than them. Music wise, I like them. I got into them because of theisr performance 6 years ago.

Okay, so just my opinion, and I'm probably gonna get hate for this, but whatever, someone needs to have a differing opinion. (And also, this isn't exactly an unpopular opinion? I'm surprised not many people have expressed this, but I guess this question lends itself to BTS stans).

First of all, get your shit right. BTS doesn't whitewash themselves. The media whitewashes them. I love their music. I love their bond. I love how they dance. And I can't even tell you how the song "save me" had actually done that. They work very hard. Whether it's Namjoon, writing songs and music or bts practicing hard at dancing. i don't really listen to kpop but i don't think they are overrated i mean there must be a reason that they are so popular and i guess bc their music must be really good.
