Not all but many unfortunately do. Over the years I've seen multipleeeee comments from Fujoshis where they blatantly fetishize actual gay men. What ticks me off the most is how much the Yaoi industry seems to shun actual gay/bi men. It often exploits m/m relationships while paying no mind to actual gay/bi men. I mean there is always Bara manga whic......   4 reply

I like yaoi because i don't like the way female characters are represented in shoujo. they are always this damsel in distress and that's fucking annyoing. Not to mention the harem. I like romance but i don't like the romance they portray in shoujo. i like the one they portray in yaoi or shonen ai. what bl accomplishes in 6 chapters, shoujo doesn't ......   7 reply

Eh... that's murky territory. Do women who read erotica/smut with straight relationships objectify other women and the men inside as well? What about lesbians who read and write lesbian romance novels or manga? I'm a gay male and I enjoy yaoi. I don't care that it's written by women or who it's written by for that matter, as long as it's a good s......   2 reply

Objectify? That’s a very strong word, and um, I don’t. I don’t think I like that word. But to be honest I am always surprise when I see gay men in real life (probably cause of my upbringing) but not to the point that it disgust me or use it for sexual release or something. I respect their decision and I admire their courage to be open about......   2 reply

I like yaoi because the characters are usually mature. There are shoujo where the hero/heroine are mature but it's not common and Josei has mature women but between drama and desperation to attract men, they don't act it.   reply

I can only speak for myself- However, I'd have to deny that statement. I realise that manga and reality and two separate entities, as I'm sure some others will as well. The only reason I read yaoi/yuri is because I'm lonely. I don't read it to fetishize friends or people who I meet who are homosexual- Because, In a way, that's just disrespectful.   1 reply

I totally can't agree with your friend. I love yaoi because they can have really good stories. I read a lot of manga, mostly yaoi but shoujo too, and yaoi has way more interesting storylines. Yaoi shows the insecurities of having to come out which straight couples don't have to deal with. As a lesbian I love seeing that in yaoi, the fight against b......   1 reply

I have two male gay friends and I truly am not objectifying them. I guess I separate reality and yaoi well enough to not do that.   reply

Of course I can only speak for myself, I do like looking at hot men and hot men banging each other. But most of all I read Yaoi for the good stories, that make me laugh, cry and adore the characters.   reply

Some do, some don't. People generalize a lot and yeah, there are many reasons why people would think people who read yaoi objectify gay men. But as in everything else, you can't put all people in the same bag. Everyone's different and everyone has different reasons to read yaoi. I personally have trouble liking female characters in manga and anime ......   2 reply
